Title: Quick carburetor model question
Post by: tricky on February 14, 2012, 05:12:57 PM
Hey everyone,

I'm going to be rejetting my carbs soon. Reading through both my Haynes and Clymers manual, there seems to be a couple o-rings that I need to change when I open them up. I want to order those so I have everything ready when the time comes to rejet.

I live in Canada, and my bike is a 2008 E. Browsing through bikebandit.com there seems to be two different carb models, one for US and one for non-US. I see that the Haynes & Clymer manual are both referring to the non-US model. Is the Canadian model the same as the US? If so.. what parts (if any) do I need to replace on going in? I know I should have a couple spare gaskets on hand. Any important o-rings?

The GS carbs changed in 2001. I don't know what they mean by US models only though because all the 89-2001 models had the same carbs as do all the 2001 - present.

Use the GS wiki and have a read -  http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Rejetting

In older ones, I believe "US Model" means 37 pilots. Rest of world had 40 pilots.

Ah that would be a good reason. I was thinking maybe it may have to do with emissions like the Cali bikes.

You are technically correct - smaller pilots for lower emissions when idling.
