hi guys my name is anthony im from sydney australia,.im 52 years young and ride a vintage 1969 triumph,, i found this forum because my son has just got his learner rider licence ..after some research we think that a gs500 is what he needs as a first bike,we are going out tomorrow to look at some gs500 s.... he will keep the bike he buys for 2years to ride on the road and then look to buy a vintage British bike to keep ,,,from what i have seen the gs500 is a good fist bike and is known as bullet proof. :2guns:,,i will be teaching him about maintenance and do all the work our self.i have never owned or worked on a jap bike before ,so this is all new to me, i hope that my many years of owning and fixing vintage triumphs will get me through any thing that comes up,allso i hope i can comtribute to this forum in some helpfull way to others
Welcome!
have him gear up, practice, and buy a set of metric wrenches, cause thats all you need on these things, besides some penetrating oil and the carburetor gods being on your side.
i have told him to gear up ,he has just got a new full face helmet and has all the wright gear, not like me

If I recall correctly, the only gear the wright brothers had was an aviation jacket and a leather helmet, so the wright gear may not be enough...
NVM me, im the resident smartass. but if you ever need something fixed, im not than willing to help!
Welcome. Make sure the GS has not been "played with" and you will do just fine. :technical:
Welcome to the forum Tiprat. Would love to see some pics of your old Triumph. There are a few of us Aussies on here. And don't worry, the GS500 is a piece of piss to work on :thumb:
Hi Tony, some great deals around Sydney on new GS500s these days. Make an offer at a dealers and u might be pleasantly surprised. My GS often reminds me of my 60s Triumph days except that it doesn't piss oil out everywhere and the Prince of Darkness is nowhere to be seen i.e the electrics are pretty reliable (touch wood) on the Suzi. When I'm having a Senior's day, I do sorta miss having a kick-start and the gear-pedal will sometimes feels like it's on the wrong side! IMHO the GS is a great learner machine. The boy will enjoy the experience.
Its nice that your going to do the maintenence with him. What kind of vintage bike does he want to get?
Welcome, you both have picked a great bike to start with. Some of us like the gs so much that we ended up keeping it. PLease get some pics of your vintage bike and tell us more about it. I love vintage bikes. I have one, or atleast one that will soon be vintage. Mine is a 1988 Honda CB450S. Its very rare here in Canada due to being sold for only one year. If you need help with something or advice just post.
Cheers
tanks for the welcome guys .its 630am here and we are about to head of on our search for a gs500,i will try to post up some photos of my triumph later tonight..,,,
hi guys.its sunday morning 650am here in sydney australia,...yesterday went well for our search for a second hand gs500,looked at a few bikes ,,,some of them are crap some ok and some in good nick ,,,its now down to paying a fair price for the right bike,,,but then i hear that a old mate might be selling a 1970BSA for $3000 dollars,,,it needs a bit of work to bring it up to scratch but thats ok ....so there might be two new bike in the shed by next week ,...anyway the sun is now up and its time to go for a ride on my trusty old 1969 triumph ,,nothing like a early morning ride up in to the mountains and attack the twisty roads on a motor bike .. will hold of posting photos of my bike untill we buy a gs500 ..and the bsa,,then post all photos at the same time ...........
