Title: New exhaust for GS
Post by: Fatvod on February 23, 2012, 12:26:22 PM
Hey guys! Ive had a GS for almost 2 years now. I would like to do an exhaust upgrade but I honestly have no idea where to start. I checked the wiki and it seems like there are exhausts made to just fit onto the bike but they are pretty expensive. Im not familiar with upgrading a motorcycle exhaust so I was wondering if I could somehow achieve a nice slip on setup for around 200 dollars? Do most exhausts need a "coupler" of some sorts to fit onto the existing pipe? Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Bike shops that specialize in sport bikes usually have a lot of stock take off pipes they will sell for cheap (or maybe free).

Yes but will these stock pipes sound better than the GS stock pipe? Im looking for good sound and a bit louder.

"Sounding good" is very subjective.  No matter what pipe you put on a GS it always sounds like a 4-wheeler to me

I mean nothing is wrong with my stock GS pipe I just want a bit of an upgrade. I wonder if anyone has any videos of a stock r6 exhaust on the GS

V&H pipe sounds almost identical to that R6R pipe, so you could do one of those if you can't find an R6R pipe and have the money.

Im trying to get a new can for about 200 dollars. So I dont think the V&H would be a consideration. Is it possible to just have a shop create an adapter for any slip on?

"The buyer will need to use their own header. The stock header will need to be modified to fit

what does this mean?

The headers are the exhaust tubes that comes off the engine block. That pipe will mount in place of your stock muffler. All it does is replace the muffer to change the sound, where as a full system would typically come with the headers, muffler, mounting hardware and it would be a direct swap.

I wish I was as lucky as you. I ended up having to buy a Yoshi for 270. Not that I regret the Yoshi, I like it's tone and without a baffle how loud it is. I sure would've liked to find a free R6R exhaust though. Would've saved me 210 bucks at least.
