Title: Please help! No power to my gs500
Post by: ali18ninja on February 27, 2012, 02:43:37 PM
So my brother got into a little accident a few months on my bike and it was banged up a bit on the left side. I took off the fairings on both sides, except for the headlight fairing, and let it sit in my front yard over the winter. Unfortunately, it sat there all winter and when I finally got my new parts in, I put them on and tried starting my bike (after charging the battery overnight). I left the battery in the bike and the alarm system was connected to it as well. Well to my disappointment, it wouldn't even turn on. I had no lights, no neutral indicator, nothing. So starting her up was out of the question. The charger says the battery is charged so I figured I didn't need a new battery. Could the rain and snow have messed something up inside? I figured if you could wash a gs500, it wouldn't really be a problem. However, I had the fairings on every time I washed her. I'm obviously not very experienced in working on my bike so any suggestions, instructions, anything would be appreciated.
Thank!

Yes.

Did you take the bike for a ride after the accident but before letting it sit over winter?

Will you take pictures and show us what the bike looks like now?

I would try jump starting it. That way you will know if the bike is the problem or you just need a new battery.

Welcome to the forum! What year is your bike? If you are getting absolutely nothing, check the fuse on the right side of the bike under the fairing.

Fuse? (the real one, not the spare)

Yes I rode it plenty of times after the incident. She ran great. I'll post pics after work on what she looks like now. I didn't know you could jump start a bike. Can you please give instructions? And is there only one fuse?

I'm no electrical wizzard, but yes you can jump your bike. If you use a car, don't jump it while the car is running (leave the car off). I use a Jump N Carry to jump mine if i have battery issues.

This is how I bought the bike. Blue and white

This was after the wreck

After I took off fairings and left her out all winter

What she looks like now. I customized it a bit. Used blue fairings and still have minor details. First and foremost though, I need to get her to start!
