Am I the only one who is totally inundated with stupid emails about pee pee anlargement, viagra, natural viagra, mail order brides, bad debt help, equity loans, paris hilton vids (lately I get a ton of those). I mean it never ends.
Ugh. Makes it hard to find the legitimate emails scatered throughout the crap emails.
I also get breast enhancement offers daily! :? ...SHEESH!
nope.
I have a hotmail email account that I am about ready to abandon because of all the BS spam it gets. And thats with MSN's spam filters on high gain...
I wish I could slap that 1 dumbass in 1,000,000 that responds to mass spamming that keeps those assholes going...
:x
The problem with spam is that the message is usualy a HTML page
that has a hidden link(to a invisible picture ) that trigers
the spamer to know that your email is working and sell the info to other spamers .
I use Yahoo mail ( free one) and they have a very good spamblocker + html tag cleaner that alows you to not view html pics in messages until you decide its safe .
I would recomend it to anybody (and not because I work for yahoo ;) .
I get the Paris Hilton ones. At least 3 a day - you better act now John, it will be taken off the internet today! I got a MILF one last week too, that was pretty funny. Mostly I get the "how to make money on the internet" or "become a millionaire from your home office" or my personal favorite "become a real estate mogul with no money down!".
Gee, John, I signed you up for those because I thought you needed them. :nana:
I maintain the spam filters (SpamAssassin) on our mail system at work, 1/3 of incoming emails get blocked as spam. That doesn't count the few that get past the filters. People here gripe about getting 1-2 spams a day, I've threatened to remove the filters for a week so they know what they're missing.
I've got to admit that I'm curious how a patch is going to make my willie larger. :? Where do I put the patch? If I don't put it on the part to be enlarged, how does it know not to make my nose bigger?
Spam isn't all bad though, I have gotten in contact with a nice man in Nigeria who is going to share his inheritance with me.
I average 10-15 of those a day. Nobody emails me so I just look down through the subject column and delete any that don't pertain to me. With all the viruses out, any of them could have something else with them.
I've been getting one claiming to be from paypal saying that my account will close in the next 5 days if I don't reply with xxxx personal information. Those are the particularly scary ones - when it's hard to tell if it's legit or not. Sometimes it has an attachment that says, "Just run this simple attachment to continue your account". I just delete 'em. The funny thing is that the warning is always "in 5 days", but I've been getting the messages for a week!
I got a good one "from" ebay this week. Even the reply to header was spoofed to aw_ebay@ebay.com and looked ligit asking for my acct name and password along with my mailing address. But the form submitted to a server some where in Russia.
Needless to say, I didn't send or reply...

Yea, my wife got a few of those and it almost convinced her it was legit. EVEN THOUGH I have told her a million times if an email asks for a password or other personal info to delete it.
She said "what should I do? ill it out?" and I said "^%$# NO! Go to Paypal and login, if there really is a problem you'll get a message there." She did and no warning about account closure. Isn't that funny.
What is worse is all these people blaming paypal for lax security and allowing pretend emails to go out appearing to be from them. Like they can protect a stupid/gullible person from themselves  It's not Paypal's fault that people are knotheads. Paypal has been sending out emails telling people not to give out personal information but I know it's largely ignored by the gullible people.
I delete without opening anything that starts Re: (unless I recognize the subject as a reply to my email)

I got one like that supposedly from Ebay. Even asked for my bank account # and PIN DUH! :guns:
Sad thing is..some people probably fall for it. :(
I forwarded it to the Ebay security people who took it quite seriously, to their credit. Dunno what ever became of it, but I got the same one again just the other day. :guns: :guns: :guns:

I second that. I have FREE yahoomail and I hardly get junk mail :nana:
Yahoo filters out crap so well I don't even know what spam is :lol: --> Honest, no :bs:
IMO it is user friendly, customizable, you can scan your incoming/outgoing attachments for viruses, and you can access your e-mail anywhere at any time (even after you change internet carriers ). The only downside is your limited to 6.0MB of free space.
FYI:
If you want to go one step farther get yourself free software to block popups. I am using a version of "Pop-Up Stopper" and it works flawlessly. I can even control when I want to open a page into my existing window or a new window (some software consider these actions popups as well).
Yeah I use Yahoo and it works really well
I just want to know how to block those stupid emails that aren't even in English :?
I never dl'ed the other languages so they are all ASCI characters  (I think thats the name)
ITS MEEE, WAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH, (sob, gasp) I DID IT, IM THE ONE( sob, sob) My name is chuck (sniff) and i have a small pee pee (sob) (crowd monoton's: we love you chuck) WAAAAAAAAAAAAA! i use the patch, the pills, the pumps and injections, i have even used electric shocks. but they all LIE!!!!! I've tryed the creams and salves, but all they do is leave me feeling silky soft. (sniff) the vacume showed promise, but when the relief valve broke, i couldnt get the pump off for 8 hours, oh it was larger true enough, but the funny purple color just scared wemen away. (sniff snort) Viagra just keeped things, Active, but then sleep deprivation made me cranky, i could never remain asleep as i couldnt lay on my stomach, i had my own kickstand. i thought of an implant, but the thought of Nike Air on my scrotum was just too comercial, but the slogan was catchy, "Just Do It"

Yeah John, I'm particularly careful with this stuff - I've unfortunately been a victim of identity theft. :x I've always been guarded with my personal info and fortunately the :guns: lowdown dirty bastard that took my identity didn't have my SS#. All the guy had was my name, address, and phone #. The officer investigating the case said he probably got it from the PHONE BOOK! So for all of you who are listed (I'm not anymore), don't list your full name - just an initial. The guy opened several bank accounts in my name and overdrew over $6,000 in cash. I didn't know until I got "welcome to _____ bank" packets in the mail, but by then it was too late. I started calling the banks and found out that the accounts were all opened by phone with an i.d. faxed to the branch (who can't fake a friggin' fax?!). The guy would then write himself checks from other bogus accounts and cash them against the account. I also found out that the geniuses at the banks don't verify that a SS# provided with an account application matches the name on the application - they only verify that it is a valid number. How stupid is that? So the bad credit references didn't go on my credit - they went to whatever poor schlub who was attached to that SS#. The investigator notified that guy too.
Even though I figured out quickly that I was a victim and took all the necessary steps to avoid it, it still took over a year to sort it all out. And the thief didn't have my social. Had he had those 9 numbers, I would probably still be suffering false bad credit. It takes an act of Congress to get those idiots to follow through with fixing the credit reports. And overall, probably the most annoying thing is that you never know if they get the guy. They don't tell you anything, which is frustrating. One of the banks asked if I would testify if they caught the guy and I told them not only will I testify - I'll whip his ass in the court parking lot. But I never got the opportunity to do either. :x
Uhh, I'm actually getting the pee pee reduction emails. Damn, those spam guys are gettin' good, eh? :nana:
Never "unsubscribe" from a spam e-mail. It will comfirm a valid address and you will just be spammed even more.
