Title: Reserve fuel switch
Post by: bicepman4000 on February 28, 2012, 08:48:05 PM
Hi, first post!
I've had my GS500 for 2 years and loved it. In the last two tanks of fuel though I haven't "ran out" of fuel around the 290-320km mark and needed to switch to reserve. The last tank I ran out completely, and on this tank I'm up to 350kms and no indication to switch to reserve has been made.

I am definitely at the "on" setting...

Anyone had any problems with their fuel switch? I'm guessing it is stuck at the reserve setting internally...

Has the tank been off for some reason?  If so, the hoses may be reversed.  The longer nipple on the tank petcock goes to the rear most nipple on the frame petcock.

There is nothing "internal" it can "get stuck to".
The position of the lever is a mechanical valve controlling whether you take fuel from the main or reserve line.
as mentioned, maybe your fuel lines are reversed. I had that happen once. Fortunately I was 10 blocks from a gas station.
It could be the petcock was taken apart and the lever put back on in the opposite position. It can happen.

Yes, I did have it serviced recently... seems like the more realistic option doesn't it
