kelly blue book offers $770 for trade in value $1200 retail value in excellent condition, clearly this is not in excellent condition.
so now my next question... if i decide to purchase this bike do you all think 600-700 would be a fair offer? considering he is asking 1800.
I don't know how they are deal wise, but I just picked up my 06 for $1200.00 with less then 5k on the clock.
Does "2 owner title" mean he's the 2nd owner or there are 2 people on the title?
Get the VIN and run a VIN check.
$1800 seems quite high. Higher than Seattle prices :icon_eek:
I would offer $600 but expect to pay $800-1000 for a running bike with a clear title. No luck finding a title frame?
-Jessie
i asked maddoc for a quote on his 92 frame in detroit. however he has not responded yet. his last online visit here was feb 21. so im not counting on that coming through for me.
so my offer of 6-700 is not unreasonable? i just hope i dont piss the guy off offering that considering his asking price. there is no way its worth that much tho.
Just keep in mind that the bike has been down. Note the dent in the tank - missing barend - bent lever and rash on both sides of cowl and stator cover. Just a little extra info you could use if you wanted to reduce the price.
yeah, on the phone he said it was in storage and it fell over. psh definitly looks like a lowside to me.

The bike would have to be moving to get rash so I would definitely call :bs: on that.
If he is lying about the fall, what else is he lying about?
It pays to be circumspect about what the intended seller says to you - remember that they want your money, not the item.
Oh, so what if he is pissed off at your offer. That's His problem not yours. I do gotta love the "yeah, there is another person interested" thing. There might be, but it's right out of sleazy car sales tricks 101.

Lol! :icon_lol: quite right mister. now that i have some experience tearing down one of these i will know what to look for when i see it in person. and believe me ill have a nice bright flashlight and have re-read the pa state inspection manual just before seeing it, to point out things that wont pass and further lower the price. :D
did i mention im a pa state certified inspection mechanic? (for cars) :o ill be sure to NOT mention that to him. all i need is my motorcycle license and take another simple test to be certified on bikes.
You could always buy it and sell me the belly pan and windshield. You know, make some money back right from the start. :D
:DEEP BREATH: whelp, i go see this blue demon tomorrow after work. called him today and said weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow. he agreed and said his schedule was clear.
i sincerely hope this guy does not just laugh and walk away from my cash offer. if he does accept he has agreed to deliver the bike to my house and off we go to the notary.
OT: today i picked up my new lid. shopped around for a while looking for the right fit for me. scorpion exo's were the only ones that came close to right. so i tried on a few exo 400's size small, i didnt feel quite comfortable with how it fit. if i twisted the helmet side to side i could slide fingers between my cheek and the liner. not to mention it was not snug enough around the crown. alas no one had a size extra small in stock. so i went to one of the places i had been browsing and had them order an xs. it came in today... as soon as i pulled it over my melon i knew it was perfect. :D
it fit nice and snug everywhere except my cheeks... it squishes em together and looks like im making a fishie face. lol. so the guy at the counter was feeling either competitive with bikebandit (which i had up on my phone) or just generous... he knocked 10 bucks off the price! so i inquired about a replacment shield, he pulls them out. from the selection of mirrored, dark smoke, and light smoke i chose the light smoke. HE KNOCKS 5 BUCKS OFF THAT! total $15 no reason discount coming to a grand total of 169.58! not bad me thinks!
oh as for our motto.... this totally happened!
Good luck on the bike, and Congrats on the new lid!
nice lid!
and Honestly, $800 would be "my" Very maximum offer.
thats IF it runs, rides, shifts, and sounds 100%!
mine did and paid $750 for it and its also 2 years newer then that.
but mine was a cosmetic POS and needed a Ton of OEM mechanical replacement parts.
hmm its got a small dent in the tank.
sides all scratched to heck.
not stock paint.
I wouldnt go over $800 and it sure as heck wouldnt be my opening offer.
but dont listen to me as far as what to pay for it or offer.
make that choice yourself as I dont wanna see someone miss out from listening to me hahaha
Notice: Belly pan and headlight cowling. $200 value at least for those 2 parts.
also look at how long its been on c/l, but $1800 is way too much. it was way more than just a fall in a garage. the rash on the cover, and the bent lever, and the bent in tank tell you that right off not to mention the bar end is off that side. my wife dropped my bike while pushing it out of the 3 season porch and is just scratched the rear plastic a little bit and that was it. i would ask what is bottom dollar is, and go bellow that, you have to be able to walk away, give him your number and say if you come around on the price to give you a call.
thank you all for such great advice!
i can even sleep right now...to wired.
nice, just be sure you can walk away it you don't get the price you want, and set a price that you will not go over.
Make sure you let us know what happened. Im interested.
He is F-ing nuts at 1800 for a 92.... Like others said.. 800 at maximum but should be somewhere between 600-700....
If it fell over in the storage unit hard enough to create those marks and that dent, it would have busted the turn signal also... This bike has been dropped more than once.. Check the frame for any part that doesn't look straight or may have been patched...
Also look at the tires.. If they are old or getting low on tread you can have him knock off money cause that will cost around 300-400 for new...
He's definitely nuts at $1800. If it runs perfectly (carbs rebuilt the right way), and there is a clear title, then $800-$1000 would be tops. I think $700 is a reasonable offer. It's pretty obvious that it's been layed down pretty hard on the right side. Missing bar-end, Suzuki engine cover, dented, and bad rash.
On another note, that's a sweet color! Very similar to what I'm going to be doing.
$1800, and you wanna talk him down to 6-700, are you insane, and yes no question he is insane, but you are planning to get someone to take 25% of his asking $. Dude find one that is about 10% off the mark and get him down 10%.
Cool.
Buddha.
Never dropped (while I owned it) LOL.
I doubt the seller is going to drop their price to what the bike is worth. I have tried more than once to get a bike at normal retail minus the cost of damaged parts and a little compensation for the time I would have to spend pulling it apart and fixing it ~ only managed to do it once in 25yrs

Meh happens...
As for dropping the price, he will be keeping that bike for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time at 1800.. Or i guess there is always a sucker born every minute.
One time when I was selling my 48K mile bike the guy asked me if it has ever been crashed. I looked thoughtful for a sec, looked up and down a few times and said, atleast 7 times, and that was after I got it in 95. It must have been crashed before that it looked pretty rashed when I got it too.
The guy's jaw hit the floor, he said it looks great after crashing 7+ times. I said every crash it had I fixed it back to as it was before or better. I checked the frame for being true after crash #5. He bought it and I saw him riding it 3 months later. But I also sold it for 675. About book $ for an 89 in 04 with 48K.
Cool.

Definitely looks like a low-side. The turn signals have been replaced as well.
i just bought my 1990 last week for original owner with 7k miles for 950. new tires, breaks, tank cleaned/coated, fork seals, and carbs rebuilt by dealer last season and had the receipts. although its still having a carb issue and leaking valve cover. after buying mine i found the next day one listed about hour and a half from me that was a 2001 with 15kmiles that said to be in perfect condition for 1500 :embarassed: heres mine anyways (http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/sluginxlt/IMG_20120309_151044.jpg)

Nice find! :thumb:
Where are you at that you're finding deals like that?
$1,800 seems high to me. I find that KBB doesn't price 10+ year old bikes well, and prices vary DRAMATICALLY based on location. In San Diego prices, a 15+ year old, problem-free GS500 generally goes for $1200-$1800, depending on the bike's condition and the shape of the tires and chain. A non-running GS500 that appears to be fixable and is otherwise in decent shape will fetch about $500.
Alas i did not even get to see the bike today! i messaged him after work and said i was on my way to the meet spot... he replies "i thought you said thursday!? i have work till 3 am. i cant meet today. can you meet tomorrow?" so of course i asked if there was absolutely no way we could meet today and he said he was on his way to work at that moment. so i agreed to meet tomorrow. same time same place.
as for the title (adidasguy) he is the second owner. he knows the PO, and has owned this bike since it was at 2200, now at 15,000. PO was the original owner since new. he will be bringing the title with him. i think the chances are fair that he may take the offer and just off load the bike.
Oz, where exactly is the seller from?
wintersville ohio, the first time i called i asked if it was wintersville pa or ohio. he said ohio its just on the other side (west) of stuebenville.
Why do you ask?
Edit: guys name is "Adam."

It depends if he wants to sell it this life time or not. I would bring a blue book value and go down from there. You just can't rude when you say it, if he doesn't want to come down in price give him your number and say to call you when he wants to sell it. I've had it work for me, my bike started over $1,000 and i bought it for under $700. You just can't be rude about it if you will offend him then he won't sell it just on principle.
meh I'm not generally a rude person. rudeness begets rudeness.
I was just curious. If he does deliver it to your place, that's really nice of him IMO.

Didn't mean you specifically are, but some people get upset when you tell them that there bike is only worth half of what they are asked for it and thats only if its in great shape. thats way i would bring something that has the blue book value of the bike. but thats just me.

Dude that one in your avatar looks a lot better, get that one.
And a 1800 price on that bike almost indicates the seller is out of touch with reality ... sorta like that Idiot Jamie Dimon (CEO of JP Morgan chase) when he says - "what are they complaining about now" when Occupy wall street was on, or "people who have less than 100K in their account are just costing us $$$" or the masterpiece he said in 08 when I used to work for JPMC about how "his executives would leave to work in europe if he didn't pay them 20 million a year as capital gains cos they cant live like 'this'"
Sorry people like that dont need to be encouraged with your phone call even showing interest in their item.

I think he already owns the white one, and was having serious issues with it, hence while he was hunting for this one.
I agree with you though, if he's not willing to take the cash offer (start lower) then walk away. Look how quickly you found this one. More deals will turn up. Just give it time.
Good luck Oz.
There were a lot of GS's on Craigslist today. Too bad ALL of them were overpriced! I think there were a couple 04's and some 06's, all were asking above $2500.

$ ?
got it for my max offer of 800. he was hesitant at that. he followed me to a notary and delivered to my house.
is the video working?
so far i have removed the belly pan and the headlamp fairing and replaced the ignition rotor cover.
well it needs more than my first post after getting it home.
absolutly need tires. need brake pads and fork seals, also need one turn signal bulb. everything else appears to be in good order.
i think i will look into laying some fresh fiberglass over the fairing and belly pan to hold them together better.
Congrats!
Plans for the belly pan?
That's awesome man! you scored that at a perfect time!
Told ya :D. good deal man
ill need to make or repair the brackets for the belly pan. aside from that i was thinking maybe ill lay a couple layers of fresh fiberglass over them to hold them together better. then repaint.
i forgot to ask PO what paint he used. ill text him later.
