Title: Happy daylight savings day everyone - except Arizona.
Post by: The Buddha on March 09, 2012, 08:33:57 AM
My favorite day of the year.
Daylight savings - Helps me do stupid things for longer and with more daylight. Whooo hooooo.

This IMHO is the best thing George Bush ever did. Moving it to encompass an extra 6 weeks I mean.

To top this I think the only thing any president can do IMHO is implement a "double dog daylight savings time". Between Memorial day and labor day we spring one more hour forward.

Cool.

Try this: Every week start it at noon on Friday.
Everyone gets home 1 hour earlier of Friday - that hoir when no one works, anyway.
You have an hour extra to party Friday and Saturday nights.
Then Sunday night we go back to normal. So you get an extra hour of sleep to get ready for Monday.

I like DST but I think the latest change makes it come too early for states like NY.  NY is not suitable for DST in March in my opinion, and we just had the 4th mildest winter on record.  I know farmers really hate it.  Just goes to show how little our great planners in D.C. think of those who feed us.  Arrogant bastards...

What does it have to do with farmers? The time on a clock is really an arbitrary thing.
get up with the chickens. Go to bed with the cows. Doesn't matter what a clock shows.
So how does it upset the farmers unless they miss their favorite TV show?

You're title should say "except part of Arizona", the Indian reservations do observe daylights saving time.  It can get a bit confusing as you travel   ;)

No no DST saves resources! You don't need as many candles in the summer or get extra ones in the winter or something.

Daylight savings is about energy conservation -  using less electricity etc...It helps more in the spring and fall (Less AC used). It made more of a difference before Home AC was so wide spread and was something of a luxury. People spend more time indoors on computers/gaming etc etc and use more AC....

Anyway.... I'm in the group that would prefer to split the difference and leave it be...

Daylight saving helps save electricity if in the extra time we get @ the end of work we are outside playing or riding or stuff ...

Anyway I have a theory ...

The only reason New York is more populated than North carolina IMHO is the fact that fire and killing an animal and wearing its hide predate the invention of A/C by a few millenia ...

And that is the thing. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, people will be inside with the air con on. It doesn't save power. And anything you can do after work cause the sun is up, you can do before work cause the sun is up.
Hence waste of resources.

Side note I can't wait for it to end here. Only three weeks to go and its gone. No more riding to work in the dark, I really should take my tinted visor off.

Well people dont do stuff before work just cos the sun is up. I wont be working on bikes, making chit chat with neighbors and generally fooling round outside before work.

Cool.
