Hi guys, rebuilt clutch a while back, but just wondering somebody said the metal plates (not friction) require to go a certain way. From what I could tell the plates were smooth on both sides so i put it any way?
Anyone replaced them and can tell me if it makes any difference? (getting a bit of clutch fade when clutch is heavily used)
cheers.
Both sides are contacting friction disks, I don't see how it would make a difference. I've done a couple over the years and just put them back in the order they came out, if you have slip maybe you need new or heavier springs.
That's actually a very good point. Hadn't thought of that.... It's not a slip I'm getting. It's just when im using the clutch in heavy traffic, the lever seems to suddenly get more free play, and the clutch bites much earlier. Once out of heavy traffic, it sorts itself out after 5 mins.
Cheers
With the metal plates there is usually a sharp edge and a smooth edge, it doesn't matter what way goes in first but they all have to go in the same way ie all smooth edge down, or all sharp edge down
hi there is no smooth edge or sharp edge from what I can remember. They looked identical either side.
Have a good feel with your fingers it can be hard to tell but it is there
