Title: WTB '91 GS500E Engine
Post by: scottscott88 on March 14, 2012, 05:25:39 PM
So I had just put a new tire and chain on my gs and was riding it home from work and I noticed my engine suddenly developed a knock. It got louder and louder until finally I lost power and could not get it to start. Come to find out I had an oil leak and it was bone dry so I suspect it siezed up on me. It will start now but the knock is very prominent at idle and if I increase the throttle the knocking gets louder. Figure it's best to just go ahead and buy a new engine. Anyone have a good working engine they are willing to part with?

No kidding. I did some looking around on ebay it's slim pickings for complete engines. I would try to do the work myself but I am lacking on space and the correct tools to do so. Anywho for a decent used engine I'm probably looking at $600 at least plus shipping.

For that much you could probably buy a parts bike/one that needs fixing up.

Thought about that, only problem is most parts bikes would need engine work. So essentially I would have two bikes that need various engine work done.

Not necessarily.  If you find one that only needs carb work, you'd be good to go.

Yeah, didn't think about that, I could just pull the carbs off the one I have and I would be good to go. Ill have to keep an eye out.
