Title: Any opinions on the Suburban Machinery SV650 Type 2 Bars
Post by: mlutz9004 on March 16, 2012, 10:19:56 AM
Anyone have em? How do you like them?
I am looking into replacing the stock bars on my 08 with Suburban Machinery SV650 Type 2 Bars. I feel like the stock bars are kinda lame. Not just because of the way they look (I actually don't mind the way they look too much), but mainly because I feel the riding position is uncomfortable. I have really long arms which I feel puts me in a weird position. Any how, after riding for about 45 minutes I get really bad lower back pain. I am hoping that changing the bars to something a little more aggressive will help with that. Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

The only thing holding me back is the fact that they are pricey. I also have thought about changing to 89 clip ons; however, they are getting pretty hard to find.

From what I've read, they're excellent quality.  Have you considered trying some clubmans?  You could get them for cheap and they'd give you an idea of whether or not changing bars will help before you pull the trigger on the SM bars.

They were the best money I've spent on my GS so far

This is just too wierd. I've only ever heard people complaining of back pain, from MORE "aggressive" positioning, not the regular stock position :D

Have you been riding other, official "sport bike" type bikes, and so you are now instinctively trying to go into that position?
If so, you'd probably be better off just retraining your body...
Alternative, you might try just rotating the bars a little away from you.

Easy to do, and no money spent.

I love mine.  I lucked out and paid $20 for them on ebay and haven't looked back.

Man you really benefited on that deal...someone didn't know the gold they had when they let em go for $20.00. They don't pop up on ebay too often.

I bought some and they really dont want to be fitted. Had issues with clearing the gauges, the bars required more persuasive force than I like to exert on my bike.

That aside I also found it very difficult to reroute my throttle and clutch cables on account of throttle pinch and stick issues at right full lock.

Has anyone else had these issues and worked around them somehow?
