Had some petcock issues... Lever not turning stupid plastic piece... So I took it apart and apparently re assembled it upside down, so pri and on were opposite... Came out today, ready to go, hit starter and thwack! I did smell gas but it's my garage, full of gas hungry stuff... So I look down to see gas spewing from the air box. Ugh. Pulled plugs, turned it over, reinstalled plugs and it runs (after changing oil) but has a slight miss at idle. Potential damage? Plugs just gas fouled? If it bent a con rod I'd think that I would hear some mechanical noise upon startup. Hope I didn't mess it up. Good thing is I have a spare rod. I don't want to tear it down again though...
I'm not sure a GS starter motor has enough torque to damage a hydro locked engine. I could be wrong. Do a compression test to check for mechanical damage and new plugs never hurt.

Good idea on compression test. If it's bent, compression will be lower. Why didn't I think of that... Lol

Compression won't necessarily be out of whack with a bent con rod......I blew the big end con rod bearing on my 2 stroke CR 250 and the compression was still good (piston/rings/cylinder bore were still fine)......bike just would not start and was hard as hell to kick over! Change the plugs and change the oil, it will be fine.

the bike turns over fine after getting the has out of the cylinders. It even runs, just not well. I am hoping on gas fouled plugs.
Got it figured out. Engine is ok. Shut off the main fuel at the tank and it smoothed out after a few. Pulling it down for needle and seat inspection/cleaning and float height adjustment. Then, with any kind of luck I will be trouble free!

No way! Def don't wanna have to tear the engine down to replace hard parts... Again. Although I am kicking my own ass for trading off my nice 01 carbs to buddha lol, it would be my luck that mine would start giving me problems. Oh well, tis the way the cookie crumbles..
Carbs are always a pain. If it had an extra set I would hang on to them like gold!
find fi motor,..pull engine,...adjust, hang, align, make brackets, weld, insert fi engine, troubleshoot, clean, resume,....(if only it were that easy)

i have the knowledge and fabrication skills, but not the money or motivation lol.
I did the hydrolock thing on my GS build too. Everything was going good and a friend stopped by, so I wanted to fire it up so she could hear it, and -click-. I could tell the starter motor was trying but something was definitely wrong. Pulled everything apart to find the carb bubbling away, dumping gas into the cylinder. After reworking it, didn't seem to have messed up anything major. Hope you get yours ironed out with no more issues.
Thanks. If I ever get time I think it would be interesting to swap to fuel injection. Microsquirt with two gsxr1000 throttle body's, it could be done and infinitely adjustable for upgrades
