Hi everybody. Would some of you owners of the GS500F please tell me what the RPM's are in 6TH gear at the following speeds:
50 MPH
55 MPH
60 MPH
65 MPH
70 MPH
75 MPH
80 MPH
Are the GS500F's in America in MPH or KMPH or both?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ride safe my friends,
Bud
See Wiki.
With stock teeth sprockets, i'm sitting at exactly 6000RPM at 6th gear at 80mph

Sell your bike and do not go near one every again.
As to your other question...
50mph in 6th is about 4,000rpm. The bike does not like sitting at this speed in 6th too much. At that speed you're better off in 5th.
75mph is roughly 6,000rpm. The bike will sit at this speed all day long and love it.

I don't know if this is unique to my poor bike, but my 500 has the most optimistic speedometer I have ever seen on a motorcycle. I suspect it over-reads by a good 10 to 15 MPH.

A 10% speedo error on the GS500 is pretty common (i.e., standard) with stock tire sizes.
Cheers!

Both my 97 and 02 GS500 speedometers were approx 10% off. I would pass one of those police radar carts holding it at 40 mph indicated on my speedo and it would read 36 mph on the radar readout every time. Figured it was 8-10 mph at highway speeds. A 110/80 front tire will cut the error in half.
Thanks a lot for your replies. The lowest I'll run her in 6TH gear will be 50 MPH I think. I'll keep RPM's around 5000 in higher gears. I'll know much better when I get the bike. Thanks again.

The bike will tell you where it wants to run. You can have it moving along at 4K RPM, but it feels unnatural. That motor likes it between 6 and 8K.

HA! One cost-efficient way to make the bike feel faster than it is... :icon_mrgreen:

Ah, so its not just me. She always felt like she hated cruising at 5k but at 6-7k she feels alot happier
