Anyone using these for driver / passenger or bike / bike communication?
Recommendations?
Is there any particular reason I couldn't just use the Motorola GMRS radios I already have?
I don't need to be able to answer my phone or listen to a GPS unit or anything. I just want to be able to talk with my passenger and / or my riding buddy.
Thanks for any input.
One of the best things about motorcycling is when I'm riding I don't have to talk to anyone. It's just me and my machine, or a silent passenger. Motorcycling offers so many things and can be very different for different riders. As a long-time married person, having an intercom = my wife directly wired into my head. And I want to pay for that? :cookoo:

Heh. I ride PLENTY by myself. There are occasions though, that, since I enjoy my passenger's company, I would like to be able to communicate with her as we ride. Same with my riding buddies. I don't envision long extended conversations about philosophy, politics or the welfare of people in impoverished countries. But a quick word now and then would be golden.
Also, one big benefit would be during group rides so that the lead and sweeper can stay in contact easier. I'm usually one or the other.
I have a friend that has a scala set up and he loves it! I was really bad the other day had some ear buds in because my speakers died and had to get a really important call from my GI ended up being admitted and they couldn't even tell I was on the bike :thumb: for the Seven Zero Seven Vendetta two helmet. Not something I usually do but in an Emergency well it worked!

Yeah, it looks as if Scala's far and away the most popular. Just seems to be pretty costly when a set of Motorola radios would seemingly do everything I need to do.
I think I'd probably have more response to my query if I were to join a Gold Wing or other tourer forum. :)
Well, yeah, Doug, the response you're looking for is in the touring forum, which ain't here, is it? If you asked your question on the XS triple forum I frequent my response would have been quite different. Best of luck to you.
sorry folks, double post!
Why ya quoting yourself for extra emphasis :dunno_black:

ive got a case full of those types of radios given to me a year ago. cant give the things away lol. motos, some kenwoods etc. BUT find a mic set, either voice activated or mount the radio within thumbs reach of either side
