But I discovered the beginnings of Goats again in my 'new' rotor. just 1 magnet has cracked and half a part of it is loose and moving. Is it safe if I epoxy it back and wait it out till I have enough cash to get a new rotor?

Also found out that one phase on the stator is damaged. Which means I need to change the stator and rotor, again. No cash, so if anyone in France is looking to buy a 1999 GS, send me a message.
I spoke to a motorcycle mechanic at a local shop here about this issue and he basically told me that because the rotor in our bike is a wet type (oil immersed) it will be nearly impossible for the epoxy to securely attach to the metal and magnet due to the impregnation of oil into each. It makes sense if you think about it, but I know people on these forums do it with varying amounts of success.
Sorry I call BS on that wet type BS, cos a 1000+ models of bikes are wet. Nearly all bikes made before 85, so we'd be seeing these bikes lying by the side of the road by the 100.
I am guessing you have an alignment issue. If your bike has been crashed on the left side and the thing bent - instead of crack as it usually would - or your crank has an eccentric taper or something like that.
That crash -> goats X 3 happened to se7enty7's bike ... so its not complete BS.
BTW you can also have a starter clutch startingto go, and its clunking can vibrate the rotor enough to get the magnet loose just from that. That happened to me.

Thanks for the replies guys. Since I bought the rotor off ebay, I have a feeling that the epoxy on it originally wasn't that great.
If I remember right, it did have patches where the epoxy had peeled off.
It's come off at quite a few places now, which means I should have been more careful before. :-/ Too late. I'm completely cash strapped and now my stator is damaged too, I have no choice. And I should start writing my thesis soon. Feeling really bummed out about all this. Decided to sell it.
I'm just gonna dump the bike and it's problems on the next guy who buys it :-| It was fun riding it... and for a my first over 150cc bike, it was great, and I learnt a lot abt fixing stuff. And you guys were great help. Hopefully I'll get a newer/better GS500 once I get a good job :)
