Title: 02 gs500 headlight ????
Post by: sxxdnne on April 03, 2012, 05:22:18 PM
Ok I have the round headlight (stock), my question is what options do I have if I want to change it out? Any plug and plays? Hid kits?  I'm looking for something other then the stock round or if I can make the round a lil brighter without binding on coming traffic.

Any help will be greatly appreciated....

with a little creativity and fabrication skills you can make whatever you want work.

Just did a mad search for the best headlight upgrade. I ended up ordering a osram Sylvania H4ST bulb for $21 on amazon. People seem to really like these, and are apparently twice as bright as stock at the same wattage.

I've read there is an issue with the longetivity of these bulbs. Quick lifespan 1/2 the life of regular H4s.

Well whats the regular life span? I'll trade half life for 2x brightness, I want people to see me, which people seem to have a hard time with currently, and to not outrun my headlight, which I always do. My bike is an 02...and something tells me its never had its bulb replaced before. I'm down with paying $20 every 5 years for a kickass bulb.

The silverstars work good, I like mine. My only issue is that that at dusk i cant see shaZam! until it gets pitch black. That twilight period is terrifying to ride.

I've been advised that a hid kit is a very bad idea as the transformer box gets extremely hot so buggered if I know where to mount it.

Twilight is a not a good time light wise no matter what you have.
Last night I rode home it was pi**ing down and pitch black, could hardly see the road! Scary ride  :icon_eek:
So I am also looking for a brighter experience  :icon_idea:

Everyone loves my fog lights. Suzi and Junior have them. I'll be ordering a set for Phenix.
You can search threads and see pictures and the difference they make or go to my photobucket pa
Plus they give a driver 3 points of light on your bike. 3 points of light makes it easier for a driver to judge your distance. A single extremely bright light can make someone turn away and not want to look at you. Consider adding fog lights.

What are the dimensions of your fog lights adidas? I've been considering mounting some small auxiliary lights using the threaded holes in the lower triple. I've seen a few naked bikes and cruisers with that sort of set up and liked the look better than the lower fork mount that is advised with the model of lights you have.

You mean NOT like this? If you want to mount on the lower triple, just put in a metal bracket to bold it like the triple mounted reflectors on the 89-00 models.

You can see here that you can bolt the bracket to anything you want.

I can't say that I'm familiar with that reflector setup you mentioned. Something like these configurations is what I had in mind.

The mounts are pretty universal: a bolt. Put it anywhere you want.
I like them separated from the headlight. Better lighting rather than all light from a single point. More separateon makes it easier for cars to judge your distance.
Anyway, they can be put anywhere you want.

I was more curious about the external dimensions of your lights, to determine if two would fit below the triple without brackets (I'm short on scrap metal).
