I have a gs500f and im having problems getting it into neutral while its running. it works fine when its switched off.
I tried adjusting the clutch. But no luck someone please help me out.
It can be tricky sometimes. What I do is let off the clutch a little or blip the throttle (with the clutch pulled in) and it seems to find it's way to Neutral every time. I have a 2009 with 6300 miles, so that may be why it's easier for me.
Are you trying to go into neutral from a stop, or are you moving?
I have found that when the oil wears out and the bike is close to an oil change, it gets harder to switch to neutral........This is common on pretty much all the bikes that I have had that share oilo for trans and clutch. Try changing the oil and see what happens.
The Nighthawk I rode on at the MSF and my GS both have the same symptoms. Riding along it's nearly impossible to get it into neutral without a throttle blip and a gentle half toe shift. While stopped I just roll back a little clutch in, and it pops right in like a magnet. Not sure if it was designed to be harder to get to neutral while moving or what, but there's the rub.

I have no problem getting my bike in neutral anymore, but I used to.
First place I'd look is your clutch cable. Is it old? Worn? Need of adjustment? A poorly maintained clutch cable could be the reason. Generally if this is a problem shifting period should be a problem.
Check your idle speed before the oil change. Do it electronically if possible. Reason being, I adjusted my idle using electronics and you find that 1.2k RPMs is actually closer to 1.5k RPMs on the tach than you'd think.
Old oil is another common reason as others have said.
Old worn clutch plates could cause this as well.
