I'm almost done and ready to ride but I cant seem to get this hesitant spot to disappear. Here is what I have:
Clean carbs, 40/125/3 turns out/2 washers. K&N drop in. Stock exhaust.
Plugs are black but not burnt or sooty on the outside ring and the electrode is grey/silver....no brown at all. Lean.
Once she's hot it idles fine, when I pull throttle it hesitates and surges bad up through 5k-ish. After that she pulls hard. I have added up to 4 washers, I tried plugging up air intake to restrict air. Not sure what else to try. Oh, and I checked the float height a lot, good there.
This may be the dumb part of the question, but is there a distinctive way to identify a V&H exhaust? I feel stupid just for asking but I was told that this bike has one....but I'm pretty sure its stock. I know that would effect the performance. I could always just get a stock filter if that would solve the issue.
Add 2 more washers to each needle and see if it gets better. Sounds like your lean in the mid range. I had similar issues with mine and I finallyhad to add 5 washers to each needle. I am going to increase my pilot one step and go back to 3 washers each.

Look on the top rear of the can (chrome part). My 2009 is stock and it has X01DEX E9 stampped on it.
I'd up the main jet one size.
Here's a dumb question. Have you checked to make sure all the carb boots on the airbox and engine side are properly seated?
The airbox side is a bit of a pain. Best way to seat it properly is to take the air filter element out and reach through the airbox to help the rubber boot around the outside of the carb.
I spent a lot of time checking the engine side, replaced both boots and o-rings...however...the airbox side. Hmm, it's seemed ok but good point. I will have to take a look and see if everything is buttoned up.
