Title: And now, a question of bars
Post by: ninjeff on April 11, 2012, 05:03:45 PM
So, upon closer inspection, i discovered the bars on my GS are bent. The right side is bent back and down about 1/2 an inch. Plus or minus.
I didnt notice when i purchased it because i was so worried about other stuff. Still, its no way to ride (safely) and now that i notice it, it REALLY bugs me.

So, my plan on waiting to have an extra bit of cash to get the SM Type 2 bars is out the window. I need bars asap. I thought of going clubmans, but they're just too low i think. If curves were a regular thing here in Illinois, i might make the comfort sacrifice for better control. As it sits, we have mostly straight roads here, and that would be hell on my back.

What i would REALLY REALLY like is a set of '89s. But i cant find those anywhere. I suppose i dont have the magical 3 stripe touch.  :D
So (unless some one has a stash) those are out too. I just cant wait until i stumble upon a set.

That means im down to 3 options as i see it.
-Drag bars
-Superbike bars
-OEM bars

I'm not 100% keen on the OEMs, as i wanted a SLIGHTLY more forward and down feel. If i could get 1 inch forward, and 1/2 down or so i'd like it.
Drag bars...are....i dunno. An option i suppose, but they just dont look like i'd be comfortable.

That leave SB bars, which are cheap enough, and fit my specs at least somewhat. Trouble is, there seem to be multiple options on ebay, and i wanted to get the imput of people witha ll the different kinds before making a decision.
So, no matter what kind you have, i'd like to hear your opinions.
I found a set of SB's that are 29" wide and 3" back, i think those might work, but i am unsure.

To add to the trouble, my local bike shop only really has bars for dirt bikes. They had one set of drag bars and the box was dusty.

I like my mx bars on my 01 GS...Renthal CR High's.....coming from a supermoto/motocross background, I have better feel and handling with higher bars....

5' 10".....The suspension on this thing is like sitting on pudding, but it feels just fine with these bars.  With no bar end weights, they get a bit buzzy at speeds above 75...They are really wide compared to the stockers....I will take about 3/4 inch off each end when I get my bar end mirror/weights in a few weeks.....I also need to reroute the choke cable due to the wideness of these bars, the choke will engage a bit at full right turn.  Other than that, I might add a set of 30mm risers to stand them up a bit more, but I am happy with the way they are now.

795 mm......=31.29 inches wide...the CR bend has a decent sweep on them but still retain the cafe style look.........I like mine much higher for supermoto racing....I use the RC High bars for my Husqvarna SMR
