Title: plastic repair
Post by: oz353 on April 12, 2012, 07:11:15 AM
just a thought.....

Im in need of a really good plastic repair person.  i have an original gs500e headlight fairing with damage. i am wondering what it would cost to have someone fix it for me. not sure of my ability to repair it properly. also would anyone know where to get a replacement windscreen for it?

Do it yourself!  Learn and post lots of pictures!  We believe in you!  I'd love to do it for you but I have too much crap to do already otherwise I'd volunteer.  I always buy grand canyon sized cracked body work and fix it for projects.  Much more fun that way.

It looks like fiber glass not plastic. :dunno_black:

Belly pans and cowlings were fiberglass. Full fairings went plastic.
Eastwood and even homor despot and others have fiberglass repair kits.
Use a kit. Also go over the mounting holes (redrill a new hole after repaired and strengthened).
Lots of sanding.

FYI: You can get a Skidmarx cowling from the UK for somewhere around $150. Junior's is actually a used Skidmarx that I painted. They look nearly identical to the OEM except the mountings are in a different place.
