Title: Carbs & Gas Problem...
Post by: curts on April 12, 2012, 04:28:34 PM
My lovely GS500 K1 (2001 – UK model) has had a head fit on the way to work.
Any ideas why?
Got up for work, 25 min trip, felt unusually rough on tickover, not bright running but ok accelerating, thought not particularly unusual - however close the throttle down and it would cut out. Weird?
Vowed to fix when home.
Stuck on sidestand at work.
Co worker pointed out at lunchtime was pouring out petrol onto the road.
I took tank off but could see no split pipes or loose unions to carbs.
Then noticed the airbox was half full of petrol!!!! I had to make a hole in the airbox to get it out!!!
5 hours later I managed to restart and though ran powerlessly and hesitately rough – it crawled slowly homeward.
What the hell is going on???? What is going wrong with my fuel system???
Carb float stuck, three way valve stuck or bust?.
It was on reserve with not a lot of gas in at the start of all this. The change to performance came on so suddenly that morning...
Help!!!! Any ideas? :-(

Float sticking in one or both of your carbs is the culprit.  :thumb:

For future reference, the the hose pipe that comes out the bottom of the bike on the right with a knob looking thing on the end of it, is the airbox drain. Take the knob thing off to drain the airbox. You should do this every service cause crud builds up in there.
