The entire plastic piece circled in red above is what is sliding up and down sometimes. This issue started after I put on aftermarket handlebar grips. When I was sliding the throttle grip on, I had to twist with a lot of force, and now the plastic piece (the piece that has the START/ KILL SWITCH on it) is what is sliding up and down.
This is an issue, because it slipped down on me after adjusting my grip while riding, and it freaked me out. I attempted to tighten the only and only screw from underneath, but... still kinda moving.
What is the proper way to secure this piece?
There are 2 screws under there, find the second one, tighten then report back :thumb:

Does the screw go into the metal handlebar at all, or are the screws in effect squeezing this plastic piece onto the handlebar tighter around it?
They tighten the housing, and if I remember correctly the housing is indexed to the bars, it has a nub that goes into a hole in the bars....my bike is gone or else I would look at mine to make sure

Will I f*** this thing up if I remove the screws from the bottom, and try to get that numb back in there? Or is this pretty simple? I'm just nervous due to the safety aspect of this. I don't want to mess up any electrical stuff.
The only way out is through, it's pretty straight forward, no springs or things that go bump in the night...I'm confident you can do it :thumb:
I have taken them off a few times, two screws on the bottom it goes into the plastic. there is a plastic nub(on the switch) that goes into a hole on the handlebars, but it is most likely broken off now if it moves around, just put two screws in the bottom of it a tighten it down. if it still moves DON"T just keep tightening it or you will strip it out or crack the plastic. if you don't want to try and find another switch, just put a little black electrical tape on the bar where the switch will clamp down on. it will deform (the tape) a little and help keep it in place. the only thing that can fall out is the plastic piece that is on the front of the switch just above the starter button (it was for a light switch that they put in euro bikes or something adidas knows what it was for) it should only go in one way. try that and let us know.
There is a plastic pin that goes in a hole on the handlebar. That keeps it from sliding around.
When you twisted on the grip, you probably sheared off that plastic pin. This control has had the pin sheared off, but you can see the spot where it went.

Sometimes tightening the control mounting bolts really helps. You can add a wrap of thin rubber or electrical tape to the bar so the control fits tighter. A little rubber shim on the bottom half might be enough to keep it from slipping if the bolts are really tightened down.
Opportunity for a lesson here. Too late for the OP who's almost certainly broken off the tab and will have to kludge with tape or something, but maybe anyone else who reads this might find it useful:
If your new grips didn't come with a little tube of lubricant, spray the inside of the grip & the handlebar with hairspray immediately prior to installing. It'll let it slide on easily while wet and then act like adhesive when it dries.
Let it dry before you ride. :)
I prefer Aussie brand, but cheap old AquaNet will do. :)
Other things that work:
Spray paint
Spray glue
While wet, you have a minute to get the grips on. that's all you need.
Same for the left grip.
Some throttle tubes have ridges so you just need the glue/hairspray/paint to let it slide then firm up. Slide straight on if there are ridges..... twisting ain't gonna work.

Per the instructions that came with the rubber grips, I used hot soapy water inside the grips, and on the handlebars, but obviously that did not work out too well.
I'll report back with my results.
You can also blow air down it with a compressor while sliding it on. This works too
Those of us blessed with girlfriends or wives, use their hairspray and it acts as a lube to get it on and a glue to hold it, spray wd40 or equiviliant to remove if needed.
