Title: Moving out - but will still drop by & visit!
Post by: Unsane on April 21, 2012, 05:04:51 AM
After losing the GS and acquiring my open license, the hunt for a new bike has already ended!

I'd spent the riding every bike I possibly could and saved the ZX14 for last... just as well because nothing could compare, its just so incredibly fast and one ride was all the convincing I needed - made an offer and whilst the salesman was negotiating with his own boss, I strolled around the showroom and found this.

2011 Kawasaki ZX10R
(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fzQLIhZhYSI/TyeIv3atEqI/AAAAAAAAD88/FOfeg45YZe4/s1600/2011-Kawasaki-ZX10R.jpg)

The price was to too good to refuse so I'm picking it up Monday - zero km on the clock.

I suppose I have to start trawling the Ninja forums now - cant spend as much time here  thats OK there are too many interesting ppl here at GSTwins to ever leave for good... but for whats its worth, thanks for all the advice, insults and everything in between!

Mary & Knowles - your comments have made me rethink the whole ZX14 thing an you'll be pleased to know I've come to my senses and I'm now going to buy a CB125.  :dunno_black:

Seriously though, I've been riding for a few years - several track days - many many many long rides thru the twisties - commuted every day for almost 8 months.

When I first got on the GS500 it felt nice for a learner bike but now its plain boring - thats why I have no issues ringing its neck. This does not mean I ride around at 11,000rpm everywhere I go - it just means that the bike is boring to me and it takes a long time to reach the speeds I am comfortable with - where a faster bike will not be working so hard. Apart from that, I also love the feeling of acceleration that only a bigger engine can provide. It may not be your thing guys but hey, its your choice

I hit a gravel patch mid corner - doesn't matter if i was on a PeeWee50 or a triple turbo Busa... the fact is many riders, new and old, fall victim to environmental hazards and the mode of transport is irrelevant.

Can I suggest reading people's posts rather than reading into people's posts.

Wow, did I call that or what? You lied to me to get me off your back that was the real grown up thing to do! Could have been a man and just said "it's my decision" and I would have respected you a heck of a lot more for it. Hopefully you won't wreck it as fast as my other friend did his!

Be safe enjoy the ride!

Ride safe my friend.

From GS500 to ZX10. Um, ok. I have my doubts but only YOU know for sure if you can keep that throttle Subdued.

I know a guy. Has an ER5. Fearless on that thing he is. He got himself a ZX9. Admitted to himself it was too much for him and went back to the ER5.

I know OF a guy who went GS500 to triumph Rocket III. Not a good upgrade IMO.

Yep. He was as tentative as on that thing. Even after many many rides he knew the bike was too much for him and had more power than he could comfortably control.

Indeed, this is a beast that commands respect - I am the first to admit that I have a lot to learn and I'm definitely NOT fearless! Having said that, though, you can pin the throttle 100% mid corner on this thing and the stability control keeps you 100% stable... as does the wheelie control, traction control and ABS when things are just about to go pear shaped. I don't want ever want to use (or rely) on these systems on the road, track or anywhere for that matter...but its nice to know they are keeping watch in the background.

Well, when you go into a whole entire page to get your sarcasm across it kinda loses the sarcasm and goes into condescending or just plain stupid. Why do you think I ended the thread. I knew darn good and well that you had no intention of listening to anyone! You are thinking with your male head not the one that God intended for you to use for these decisions.

If Freud had a say you really suffer from the Oedipus complex! And have to prove your manhood in just about everything you do. Should probably see a psychotherapist about that before your manly man  decisions get you killed.

Again, could have just been a man not hiding behind sarcasm and just said thanks for your concern guys but this is what I'm buying.

I will always have Unconditional Positive Regard for you!

Mary

Going to a liter sports bike from anything smaller is going to be a big change regardless of how long you have been riding or what you have been riding. An associate of mine went from a Ninja 500 to an R1 after two years.  He said he had to learn how to ride all over again, because of the difference. 5 years later, he is one of the best riders I know. He does a couple of track days every year, and has never had a ticket. He is on his second R1, because of theft not wreckage. Yes, he rides, and rides a lot. His bike isn't a dust collector.

For every story of someone upgrading and throwing their new bike down the asphalt or downgrading because of too much power, there are many stories of somone that upgrades and does just fine.

Congrats, Unsane! The liter bike will be better for the curves than the ZX14 will be. Nice curves eat Busa's and 14s for lunch. Make sure you make Twist of the Wrist II, your MC bible and learn how to ride that baby.

Mary, it was a one line sarcastic dig at you and Knowles - get over it. You seem to be using your psychoanalytical powers for evil instead of good... you really dont know sh!t about me so you can cram Freud's Oedipus complex and all of your textbook-based assumptions about me up your arse.

That was not a sarcastic joke, that was me expressing my thoughts.

Having an unconditional positive regard for me does not excuse the tripe you have posted here Mary.

I wouldn't trust that stability control to keep you safe at 100% throttle mid corner.  Be careful on that beast.  That's a jump most can't make.  Good luck doing it, especially buying new.    :thumb:

Oh, and remember, if you lowside this one the way you did the GS, you may not live to tell the tale.  Welcome to a whole 'nother world of power.

Not as ugly as the rider  ;)

Just got back from the first ride - 130km around Sydney roads and I'm stoked with my choice. This bike is brilliant at everything, even though I'm on a tight run-in regime and the TC is set on full (wet roads in Sydney today) and the tyres are green.

If you are scared by litrebikes, don't be! Yes they are a lesson in self control but it all comes down to you... so be scared of yourself!  :dunno_black:

EXACTLY, self control is key. if you cant control yourself, youve no business on the bike. methinks youll do just fine

400km on the clock over 3 days and 2 tanks of fuel now... Including a 5:30am trip up the old road this morning - cornering at virtually the same pace as when I had the GS (maybe a little faster) but power out of the corners, on the straights and braking force is astonishing. I don't think I will ever be able to use the full potential of this bike but I see that as a good thing - especially on the street!

Nice photos. Did he have a remote flash on a tripod? Diffuser?

What the hell is with these people ragging on you? You can do whatever the F&*K you want. I'm sure you're not 17 so you're an adult able to make your own adult decisions.

Opinions are like assholes...everybody's got one. That, and Mustangs...LOL!

Addendum: I see you're 37 years old. Uh...why the hell are people younger than you trying to be your parents? This is something I truly hate about this and every other forum...people that think they're entitled to act like their sh!t doesn't stink.

If you're honestly trying to give someone helpful advice you need to realize they're far less likely to listen if you present it in a combative way...and remember that THEY DON'T HAVE TO! That's the freedom of choice.

Also, I love the lime green, but for some reason the first photo you posted (stock photo I'm sure) appears to be an almost...olive green. I like that color a lot too...oh well. Both are good ;)

Im a photography noob so bear with me here...

The photos were a long exposure basically in the dark - I could not see a thing! Shutter is opened and he walks around the bike with this huge boxed light and highlights the curves - then closes the shutter. He picked the camera position and light angles - yes a tripod was used for all shots. Hope that makes sense!

Kijona - you are right and there are a lot of opinions flying around on the ninja forum as well... but almost everyone there has a 180hp + bike too so they hack on about other crap. Swearing is not censored and it gets pretty raw sometimes. Get your technical facts wrong and look out! I'm glad to see they discourage hooliganism though - people who post pics or vids of burnouts, wheelies, stoppies, 300kph passes etc get paid out on big time!

I'm not fussed though - sticks & stones. This bike makes me too happy to worry about other people's opinions!
Cant keep away from GSTwins because there are too many good ppl and discussions to miss out on
