Title: New Handle Bars and no start
Post by: merlinq21 on April 21, 2012, 02:44:05 PM
Hello all. I replaced the handle bars on my son's 2004 gsf. I ran into some issues, one was a broken clutch lever assembly, replaced from a local wrecker.

After getting everything buttoned back up and grinding down the plastic tabs on the under side of the throttle and  lights and signal assembly, I was able to start the bike and it would idle high then when I backed off the choke, it would not hold idle, I tried to apply some throttle and it would bog and die. Shortly after this I would try to start it and the battery would drain. I managed to get it running for a bit took it around the block and she died.
Battery is flat and on the tender now, but the flipping bike will not idle properly.

I have a renthal super bike bars installed, they are lower and I am afraid that this has caused my cables , throttle and choke cables to get out of alignment.

Any suggestions

Thanks

If the bars are wider than the stockers, it's possible that the choke cable is being pulled when the bars are turned hard right.  Mine does this after I put my MX bars on.......I just need to reroute the cable.

When I put on GenMar risers I got the same choke cable pull when turning bars hard right and had to reroute the choke cable from front to behind left fork tube.

I was thinking the same thing and before I started down that path I wanted to hear from the people on here.

Again very much appreciated

Thanks
