I can't speak for the GS500 specifically, but I think you can take off the rear fender and some other parts nearby to reach the actual seat latch.

i would suggest you may be able to take the seat off if you are able to get at the lock cazble under the seat
Yje other option is to remove the igntion lock which requires some drilling of the snap off head bolts
Or you can take the tank to a locksmith otherwise its the whole bike and they can pick both locks
life lesson always have one good key!!
Cheers

What model - E or F?
The seat blocks the bolts holding on the tail plastics.
Seat blocks bolts for rear grab bar which is often necessary to remove to get the tail plastics off.

Upi might be able to reach under the lock and grab the cable with needle nose pliers.

If your keys snapped off - where did they snap off?
if in the seat lock, press down on the seat to relieve pressure on the latch then turn the lock somehow to unlock the seat.

Once the seat is off you can take everything apart. The seat lock can come apart without a key to be re-keyed or have a key made. Seat lock uses only the first 4 notches of your key on the "E" seat lock. Not sure on the "F" but it is not all the positions used by the ignition lock..

Gas cap: that's a biiitch. I've only broken one open. One tank I got had a cap on it and one of my other keys opened it! Lock smith can probably pick it. Beyond that I do not know. I believe it uses fewer tumblers (wafers) than the ignition.

The key broke as i was unlocking my gas tank. funny thing is I broke the original key yesterday in the tank, I thought it was the key. Then today, the second key broke in the gas tank. WTF. My tank is eating keys. Both keys just ripped half of the way so I was able to get them out of the tank. I have the 2 pieces, So im gonna see if I can get a copy made by hammering the pieces out and epoxying/clamping them together. Will be going to the hardware store first thing tomorrow.

Its a 2002 e, by the way.

I really hope I dont have to get a lock smith involved. That would be a cost that I cannot currently sustain.

Don't do that.
Take the damaged pieces to a GOOD locksmith. Give the experts a chance to pound things back. With both broken keys, I bet they can make one good one that works.

Hint: Press down on the gas cap when unlocking to release the pressure on the latch. Also WD40 it.

01-02 sometimes doesn't have a letter because it is an "E" with "F" plastic tail. I guess I should have asked what year. Your seat lock is same as the "F" because of the tail design.

What about the ignition? Seems you're stuck in the OFF position or is it a different key?
If it is a different key, see if a locksmith can open and re-key the tank and seat to match. Often things can be opened by "raking the tumblers" with a key that is close.

Many Suzuki's use the same key. Have friends with a Suzuki? Try their keys. Lots of them are the same. I bought an "E" tank from europe. Had the cap locked on. My 2009 "F" model key opened the tank! Now I have a spare gas cap with a key to sell.

very interesting, i did never new i just had a gs500. coo.

I usually do press down, and i probably was pressing on the cap when it snapped. I should probably lube that puppy up.

I only know one person down in new orleans with a motorcycle, and its a crappy, beat up ugly ex250r, unfortunately.

And I am confined to the cage until i get this whole situation sorted out.

I went ahead and bought new locks and ignition with a key, mainly because my steering doesnt lock anymore.

For the seat, I can just reach up underneath the plastics on my F model and pull the cable, even with my fat caveman hands.
