Title: Fuel tank combatility & whatnot
Post by: Rubicon on April 27, 2012, 03:29:42 PM
Quick Rhetorical question

Is there anyway any of the newer model Fuel tanks (2003 and up) can fit/be made to fit on a 89-02 GS?

Thanks!~

Yes.
Many have dome it. Browse the threads and you'll see.
When building Phenix, someone had that question and I had a newer tank for sale. So here I placed the new tank on the frame with old seat and old tails.
It works.

PS: You do have to fab a tab by the tank for the front tab on the tail plastic. The new tanks don't have that tab the old tanks had. Fab a tab with a little play in it and get the rubber grommet that goes in it.

What he said, ^ make the seat come off harder because you have to wedge it on. I 89 with a 2008 tank like the look of the newer tank way better then the older one, now i have to figure out what to do with the older seat-hate it.

Actually, having both models, my preference is for the older tank. I feel the newer tank is too big. Smaller older tank makes the bike feel more nimble and smaller.
Though the larger tank is great for all day rides at 65mpg.
I guess that's why I have more than one bike.
