Ok, So i just was given a free gs500e, a 1995. It is missing the seat, battery, gas tank, gauges (speedo/odometer), ignition switch (where the key goes) and title. The Tires are brand new (like a week old), then engine runs perfectly, carbs were just rebuilt a week ago. I am doing some research and it is looking like its going to be a few hundred bucks after all of the work i need to get done, not to mention obtaining a title if I cant get the original (long story). How much could I get by just parting this out do you guys think? The engine is worth a few hundred right? How much are wheels with brand new tires worth? Can I sell frame without the title? What other parts are of value? Im thinking its prob best to part it out and start with something that has a title. I am mechanically inclined, and able to do the repairs, but I dont want to end up in a money pit...
I'd be curious why alot of the parts are gone, but it has new tires and rebuilt carbs a week ago. Sound a little suspicious. Why would someone rebuild the carbs, put on new tires, and then start to part out a bike, AND THEN the rest of the bits (the ones with VIN numbers on them) away for free?
I have the tank, and seat...the tank has a fist sized hole in the top of it (it was rusted badly. the the kid cut it open and put a plastic tank inside so it was rideable still. I have the seat also but it is torn and in rough shape.
He is a good friend of mine, he was putting money into it every week, and got sick of it, so he bought a used R6 for $1500 and told me I could have this bike. Nothing shady about it.
ANDD, ignition swithc is actually still there, just dont have the key, it broke off in there LOL I guess I should have been more clear

depending on where you are, check DMV to file for an abandoned vehicle title. I'm in VA and it's super easy. I have filed for three so far (all for cars projests) and had no problems to date. It takes about 4-6 weeks and I get a fancy new clean title showing that I own that mofo. I believe what they do is check banks for ownership if someone still has a loan on it, then send a letter to thelast registered driver/owner. They then have a couple weeks the respond. If not, IT'S YOURS. Cost like $25 here. Good luck

How odd. Spend money on wheels/tires but spend a bunch of time bodging a plastic tank Inside the metal tank?
Tanks cost stuff all, seats are not much different, the ignition barrel is likewise fixable. BUT, without the title there is zero point spending any money on it. Get that sorted out first. If the title's long story is too much for you then part it out - or - get it going and use it as a track bike.

Forgive my skepticism. The whole thing seemed odd in your first post. Get the title and move on from there.
