Title: Carb hose routing help! Lost my manual and my markings.
Post by: afroese on April 28, 2012, 10:19:34 AM
Hey guys,
So I've taken the carb out of my 08 gs500f for a bit of maintenance/learning experience. Well. I certainly learned I shouldve taken many pictures...not used tape and numbers to mark hookups. After a week or so before putting it back together, I came back to find most of the tape laying on the floor. Hindsight being 20/20....Better yet my laptop which contained my manual, the only other direct reference I had, has died and is getting fixed....

So I've taken a couple pictures to see if someone can point me in the right direction. I cant seem to make logical sense of how these hoses should be fitting. Please keep in my mind my overall mechanical experience is slim to none. I try and learn as many parts/terms as i go so bear with me. Ive been reviewing the poor mans jetting pictorial as well as the hose diagram listed on the wiki to try and observe the hookups but am still unsure.

First. I have circled all the hoses and hookups at the top of the carb. I dont know which goes to which or how one of those comfortably fits to the steel hookup on the side?

Where does this one in my hand go to? The other one I believe is the airbox drain hose?

Does the airbox drain hose go on the left or right? What is the other one?

In your second picture, the hose in your hand connects to the leftmost fitting in your third picture of the airbox. (The one that is circled but does not have tape on it)
I believe the other hose in your second picture is the airbox drain hose. It goes to the other circled fitting in your third picture (the one with the tape).

Sorry, but I don't know about all the hoses on the carb yet.

There are lots of photos and diagrams if you browse the "technical", "assorted" and "gs500" areas of my photobucket stuff. Click on my signature to get there.

Airbox: bottom one is drain. Other one goes to the PAIR (PARE?) system.
My site has photos of carbs from all angles so you can identify the hoses and where they go.

Got it sorted out. Was a little nervous once it was all back together. It was the first time I had done anything bigger than change the oil. To my great satisfaction she started up no problem.  :woohoo: . Runs well however I seem to have a slight clicking I didnt hear before...though I hadn't ridden it for a while so it all seems very foreign. Going to read some posts and see if I can diagnose anything. I'm going to get it checked out by my mechanic for a once over before she gets it back anyways... being that my sister crashed it when she was trying to learn...I had to replace the lights, mirrors, handlebars and signals as well as give it the remaining fenderectomy she hadn't accomplished. What luck for her a box of my stock parts fit to replace all those. I figured hell while I'm at it and I've got something else to ride lets see how the carb is. Next up is valve clearnace. After taking it for another spin I'm envious of how well it corners and what great control it has. I just need a turbo version  :D

Thanks for the posts guys.
