This will fit an 04 GS500F correct?

Yes, it will fit. I actually have used that chain. My opinion? Meh... It lasted me 16,000 miles. I ride a lot all year round (over 13,000 miles a year) through all kinds of weather and am pretty rough on chains. I think the Bike Master (7400 lbs tensile strength) is a little low on tensile strength for a 500 CC motor.
I had a DID 520v prior, and got over 22,000 miles out of that. You get what you pay for. It's not a bad chain, just not good enough for the beating I give it. Personally, I look for a tensile strength greater than 8000 lbs. My current chain is 8400 lbs tensile strength and I git if from ebay from Forward Powersports. I paid 48.99 for it, and that included shipping. We'll see how long this one lasts.

My 97 and 02 GSs both came with the DID 520V 0-ring continuous chains and the 97 went 19000 miles and the 02 went 22500 miles on the OE chains. In addition I've used 7 replacement DID 520V chains with clip masters links that went 14000-18000 miles. Quite a varience I think, depends on how they are used. When I put a new one on in the spring so it has a lot of wear before winter then the splashing thru the salt water all winter usually gets it real kinky by spring. I replace them when they get kinky, not worth messing with after that.
I was riding 15-20k miles a year when I got my first GS500 13 years and 170k GS500 miles ago but have tapered off to only 6-8k miles per year now. After the DID chains I got 18600 miles from a RK-XSO chain and am running a Parts Unlimited O-ring now I put on last May that's got about 7k miles on it now and seems to be holding up as well as the DID ones did, not half worn yet and thru one winter so far. Seems to me the Parts Unlimited chains and the Bike Master chains which are both rated at 7400# tensile are about the same quality, I'd use either.
The Parts Unlimited chain is made in Japan, is quad staked, and sounds and looks like a quality chain. Cheapest RK chains for example are made in Malaysia (sp?) and are only dual staked. My chain log:

An update on the Forward Powersports chain: what a piece of crap! It's still on sale from the vendor, so if you are thinking about it, spend a little more money. You get what you pay for. This chain simply disintegrated at 6600 miles. Found a pile of orings when I pulled the cover for the primary gear. They apparently went VERY cheap on the Orings! So much for my great ideas! I went ahead and spent a little more, paid $58 for a Primary Drive 520 ORH X-Ring Chain . Rated tensile strength is > 8000 lbs. I'm hoping this one goes at least 12,000 miles.

Having used 9 DID 0-ring chains including the 2 oem chains on my 97 and 02 GSs and one RK-XSO chain I put a Parts Unlimited 0-ring chain on last time in May 2011 and have just reached 10k miles on it. Only a few half turn adjustments so far and it is kink free and with no lost 0-rings yet. Probably take most of another year until I have a final report on it, looks to me like it will last as long as the more expensive DID and RX chains I used. I do keep it well lubed with extra lube on the O-rings thru the winter but I'm really not riding it as hard as I used to.
