Title: Non GS Question, Marauder Question
Post by: warlock214 on May 03, 2012, 12:56:28 AM
Found a guy that's selling a '01 Suzuki VZ800 Marauder for $1000. Claims it started running rough and hard to start when cold, so he attempted to clean the carbs and now it doesn't crank. I may go look at this. What should I look for? Or maybe even quiz this guy to see what he may have or not done?

Does "no crank" mean the starter isn't working or the engine won't turn.  You could take a battery or jumper cables to see if the starter works.  If it does, do a compression test to see if the pistons and valves are doing their thing.  If not, take a socket set and make sure you can turn the crank by hand.  If it won't turn at all by hand then the engine is locked up; walk away.  If it turns a little and then meets resistance it may be hydrolocked.  Remove the spark plugs and turn it to see if fluid shoots out the spark plug hole.  If that gets the starter working, do the compression test.

He wrote the engine will turn over but won't crank.
