I was just looking at the center section of the tail plastics and was wondering why these are hard to come by and if anybody has taken a stab at fabricating one. If so, what were the results? I really don't get this, if you put the bike down wouldn't the sides be hosed and not the center.
A lot of them get broken when owners try to remove the tail plastics as one piece instead of disassembling into 3 pieces. If you can make one for under $40 it would be worth it. If not, just buy a new one from Suzuki.

I guess I had the sense enough to not break it. I can see people doing that though.
Ive never had an issue taking it off in 1 piece....? Ive removed it 4 times... :dunno_black:
When I bought my bike, the center piece was held on with a zip tie and some electric tape.... I left it like that until the first time I needed to take the plastics off and then I just left the center piece off. My chain guard was also zip tied on and I have yet to put it back on since I last lubed the chain... I'm lazy and the previous owner was an idiot... Oh well. :dunno_white:
I've contacted many people selling tail sections. never the center. I think:
1. They lose it (yes, some have said they lost it)
2. It gets broken easily
3. They don't think it is important and it is easy to replace to they toss it
4. Probably cracks when the tail gets hit in an accident
Often tails are sold as singles. meaning the other side probably was the accident side. Along with that the tail center probably broke in the accident and only one side plastic was worth saving and selling.
When you can find them, they're often as much as a side piece. often $15-$25!
I see quite a few on other ebay sites but they refuse to send o'seas :dunno_black:
Often for 2001+ models. Rare for 89-00 models.

No, I am talking about the old ones Adidas. I have no interest in the new ones as they dont fit my bike.

LINKS! This thread is worthless without LINKS to all those tail center pieces.
I did not bother with links as the sellers do not ship overseas?
BUT if I come across them again I will copy link. :thumb:
OK. Thank you.
Another one for you:

OK. So do these vary in size or are they all the same. (Within standard tolerance ). And what would everyone think about an aluminum center section. Or maybe lexan or a similar thermoplastic? Just an idea. Doesn't seem to be a complicated piece.
89-2000 all the same except for color.
I'm sure one could be made. Due to matching up in thickness, plastic would be preferred.
One could bend a flat piece into the required shape. Drill the 2 mounting holes. Glue on 2 tabs that fit into the rear of the side pieces. Paint to match bike.
Someone into plastics should be able to copy the piece very easily.
That's what I was thinking. Maybe I'll give it a try. Anybody know where I would find some clips? Or do those have to made as well?
If you mean the metal clips on the end of the tails, they are off the shelf items at most any electrical store or fastener store. They're used all over the place, especially in electronic cabinets and sheet metal work.
That's what I was hoping for. Didn't pay too much attention to them.
