Title: Replacement Grips
Post by: ruifrsilva on May 11, 2012, 01:11:42 PM
Hey Guys, I finally got my bike running right and have been looking to start changing a few things on it. The grips are in bad shape so that is going to be the first thing to get changed. does anyone have any good recommendations for some decent reasonably priced grips for these bikes?

Thanks,
Rui

Find a comfortable aftermarket set for 7/8th handlebar and away you go. Personally I would go back to oem cause aftermarket doesn't seem to last but anyhoo, foam grips are nice but don't go too thick or else it hurts your palms.

Pro Grip gel grips are nice, they take some of the vibes out of the bars too :)

Any recommendations on a comfortable set that's out there. I'd hate to order a set that looks comfortable ony to hate it more than my worn out stock grips.

Thanks

Rui

Thanks mitch79, I was looking at their website earlier. I will probably give these a shot.

Use an air compressor to take them off and put em on.

Also, don't twist the throttle too much or you will snap the little stub plastic piece that holds it firm to the handlebar. I used hot soapy water to apply them on. Others have used hair spray.

These are better for vibration dampening:

And available in colors. I've never understood why bikes come with hard thin grips.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this but I used to work at a bicycle shop and when replacing grips we'd spray hairspray on the inside. It's slippery at first but gets sticky when dry, so they are less likely to move around. Also, +1 to air compressor.

I knew about using hair spray from replacing grips on my mountain bikes but not sure how to use compressed air to get them out and on. Just blow a shot of compressed air between the grip and the handlebar?

Exactly. Most of the bikes also had a small hole on the end of the grip. Stick the air compressor in their and it would litterally blow the opposite grip off.
