Title: New to the GS500, need some good advice.
Post by: speedfreek on May 16, 2012, 08:13:47 PM
Got a fixer-upper '97 that I'm bringing back to life.

Any recommendations on the most popular tires and chain?

Thanks,
TJ

Also, is there a good aftermarket lower cowling that can be installed to keep road grime off the motor?

Thanks,
TJ

I use the stock Battleaxe tires. They are fine for every day riding and doing twisties.

Search for "belly pan" or "chin fairing". There are some available. Some from Europe. Some used ones from people on the board. They can be rare and hard to find. Then sometimes a few will pop up on ebay for next to nothing.

Any decent o-ring chain will be fine. Replace sprockets and chain at the same time. About $80-$125 for good chain and sprocket sets. Since they wear together, new chain = new sprockets.
