Post by: knowles on May 19, 2012, 12:04:26 AM
Saw this on yahoo, just wondering if im the only one that thinks that maybe they should just not do things to get them sent to prison?

"Still, the ability to call home at a reasonable price is an important factor in whether inmates rehabilitate and reintegrate into society when they return, say reformers."

I'd like to see Evidence of this?

Obviously, being out of jail living at home with their families did not make them upstanding citizens, but somehow a phone call home will? I'm calling BS on that one. Just another do-gooder group - who probably is funded by govt money - trying to justify their free money. Pffftttt.

How much does a postage stamp cost?

Give them crayons to write with, and save all that money on phone calls.

"America has just 5 percent of the world's population but 25 percent of its prison population"

Sounds like they're doing a pretty good job of catching people who break the law...

As for the phone calls, the issue is that for some reason inmates are being charged EXTRA for phone privileges ~ I don't see how that is OK.

Ask ANY military personnel if a phone call is a right. I was able to call my wife maybe once every three weeks or so. At over a dollar a minute those calls were short. Bo-frickin-hoo if some inmate has to pay a little more. Tough. Learn how to write a letter.

I'm ok with inmates being given limited access to things ~ that's part of their incarceration, the removal of privileges. But I don't agree with charging extra for a service unless there is a legitimate reason. "Because we can" not being one of them.

I just think people need to realize that prison is suppose to be a punishment, if its not a place that you dont want to be the dont do shaZam! that makes you get sent there.

I think people get that. What is more important is to have something to lose in the first place.

.... whatever message is directed your way is produced by people who want you to believe/react in a certain way ....

This is Obviously a piece designed to garner polar reactions. While people dis each other over this, other stuff doesn't need to be reported, pollies get a free pass to whatever. This is the reason I don't watch/read/listen to main stream news.

I agree, watch MSNBC and treyvon martin is a cute twelve year old kid that loves his momma. Watch FOX and he's a 6'1"gang thug drug dealer. It really is whatever they want to report. Isn't there a saying that history gets written by only those who conquer.
