Title: Clutch/ Brake Levers
Post by: striz on May 21, 2012, 04:23:11 PM
Hi there,

Just picked up my first bike, it's a 98' GS500.  The previous owner changed the clutch and brake levers (probably laid down at some point?).  I just bought Original clutch and brake levers but am a little uncomfortable changing the levers out.  Are there any tricks to this?  Are there any step by step guides anywhere (not sure anyone does that on here for things like this).

Answers appreciated. Thanks

Hi!!!!
First of all thanks to adidasguy for the video tutorial...I've appreciated it...very cool!!

I would like to replace both brake and clutch lever on my GS500 year 2005 build, with these kind I've found on ebay:

http://www.ebay.it/itm/KAWASAKI-Z750-2007-2011-Freno-Frizione-leve-brake-clutch-lever-/251065442714?pt=Ricambi_e_Accessori_Moto&hash=item3a74aaa19a (http://www.ebay.it/itm/KAWASAKI-Z750-2007-2011-Freno-Frizione-leve-brake-clutch-lever-/251065442714?pt=Ricambi_e_Accessori_Moto&hash=item3a74aaa19a)

I know from your tutorials that brake lever should be compatible with the ones suitable for SV650 and DL650/1000 so the ones I mean above could be mounted on the GS500 2k5.
For clutch lever the perch assembly has to be replaced cause it's not standard, isn't it?
Could you advice any suitable clutch perch that could allocate standard type levers?

Thanks a lot

Vittorio

Others around here have had some success with clutch perches from an sv650. Just make sure you get one that has the mirror mount to use on a GS500E.

People have used SV650. I have used Honda F4 on Suzi, my 2009.
Expect to order a new clutch cable from MotionPro which has a 90* bend rather than a 45* bend. That is needed to clear the instruments.
Mirror mount not needed for 2005 - mirrors are on the fairing.

Oops. Missed the fact that this question was not from the OP with the 98, but a second poster with an 05. Adidasguy speaks the truth, as usual. However, some members (slipperymongoose for one) will say a replacement clutch cable isn't a necessity.

Thank you very much my friends!  :)
So do you think that at least  the brake lever of the set I've found on ebay could be mounted without any modification?
For adidasguy : for cable replacement do you mean the entire sheat up to the engine carter?
I've got GS500E built 2005 (the naked one) ..do the SV650 clutch cable fit on my bike?

P.S: Another ebay seller with similar products as above:

Yes - a complete new cable. They are like $40 for a new, custom one.
