Solid pin? I think it is an alignment pin that goes in the head and cylinder block.

Did you replace the cam chain tensioner?

well i actually transfered all of my internals to another case bc my old one crack so yes the cam chain tensioner was removed but i didnt find this pin until after had split the case so i dont think it was from the cam chain tensioner...but if it was an alignment pin where would it go?

If it's hollow, then it might be from one of the side cases ,check here numbers 3,16,20

I just finished rebuilding the top end of mine, and I didn't have any solid pins whatsoever. Now, I only removed the front cam chain guide and not any other guides, but I seriously doubt that pin goes to either of the two I didn't remove.  So my 2 cents says that came from the crank case.

i was afraid of that...to be honest i dont even know if it came from this motor...lol but i just assumed it did since it was on the work bench but ive looked through the parts micro fiche's and never found it so idk. if i put it all together and it runs well i guess it wasnt needed...lol

That pin goes to bottom of cam chain tensioner/chain guide.
http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/2/Make/Suzuki/YearID/43/Year/2002/ModelID/6502/Model/GS500/GroupID/272339/Group/CAM_CHAIN
See part#8, lowest part you can see pin going through that part. Pin is between lower and top casing and keep  tensioner/guide on its place.

Just for kicks, compare the Ron Ayers fiche diagram above with this one from Hillsboro:

http://www.hillsboromotorcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=92666&category=Motorcycles&make=SUZUKI&year=2001&fveh=2102

It doesn't make much difference for this discussion, but in general I prefer the "cleaner" look of the latter.

Yep, that's one of the guides I didn't take out! Haha. Glad you found it!
