Title: OT: Cage Tires
Post by: bbanjo on December 15, 2003, 08:20:10 AM
I just wanted to share with the group what a scam the cage tire biz is with joints like NTB. I need two new tires for inspection this month, so I called them and was quoted a price of $215 for the tires, mounting, balancing, taxes, etc.

I can get the tires mounted and balanced for free so I asked how much the tires would be. 2 x $84 + 7% Philly tax ($11.76) for basic P195/60HR-14 Dunlop SP Sport A2.

I've used Tire Rack before and had excellent customer service, so I checked there.

To my door in two days for $123.40, including shipping. $55 per + $13.40 shipping.

Let's break this down.

NTB:         $175.76
Tire Rack: $123.40 including 2 day shipping

Savings = $52.36   :nana:

Just thought I'd share  :thumb:

I can't mount and ballence myself but I've found CostCo and Sam's Club both have good enough prices to be compedative with the Tire Rack. I was able to get a membership and 4 tires for my Cherokee mounted with road hazard, lifetime ballence, etc . . . for roughly the same prices as Tire Rack + shipping + mounting.

I've used Sam's for tires for my Wife's Chrysler van and got a great price there as well. The one close to us doesn't carry the Dunlop rubber that I like for my VW, so I had to look elsewhere. I have to say that the guys at Sam's had me out of there in about 15 minutes, so they are quick too.
