Title: Larger Tank for a 1989 GS500
Post by: lasherdc on May 31, 2012, 08:21:02 PM
Hi guys!   I have a 1989 GS500.   I understand that I can put a larger fuel tank on this bike.

Can someone advise which year(s) Gixxer will fit with the larger capacity?

Thanks in advance for the info!

People have put on the 2001+ year tank of GS500. It is a little over a gallon bigger.
There have been threads and postings on how to do it. Not much work other than adding a mount for the front of the side plastics (which is on the 89-00 tanks and not on the newer ones).

Fuel capacity for the various GS500 model years varies, depending on whether the bike is a CA model:

So, you could gain as little as .8 gallons or as much as 1.3 gallons, depending on the combination of old & new tanks.  :dunno_black:

But wait ... you mentioned a larger replacement tank from a Gixxer?  I haven't been around for a while, so I hadn't heard of that.  Sounds interesting; I'll be interested to hear from anyone who has made that particular switch.
