FYI for any folks using the DuPont Teflon Multi-Use Dry Wax lube (blue can) on their chain, they changed the formula and blue is no good for o-ring chains anymore supposedly. They have a more expensive chain lube that's supposedly basically the same as the old blue stuff but don't just grab the blue stuff.
I was fond of the old stuff. I'm trying some of the chain specific stuff, but it's more expensive. :cry: :cry:

Thanks for the info! I would have probably just picked up another blue can in a couple of months when mine runs out.
I stay away from oring chains. havent had the best experience with them....

As an old guy who remembers life before O-ring chains, I sure wouldn't want to go back to the non-O-ring type.

OMG! We've all been duped! Not only do O-ring chains cost more, they rob us of horsepower and now, according to Average, they don't last as long!

You've got it backwards there mate.
Non-oring = replace weekly
Oring= replace every 20000
Xring= replace bike (no not really)
The teflon stuff doesn't seem to work as well as plan ole 50 weight, so I'm back to engine oil.
It got popular because it was cheap and fast. Now, the company is greedy. Vote with your money.

Something wasn't right then either with the installation or maintenance of the O-ring chains. Typically they'll last 3-4 times as long.

yes, old thread, but it's the first search hit, so I'm gonna update to it.
FYI: I just tried "Motul factory line" chain lube. and it looks interestingly similar. Maybe even better.
It's got the whole "goes on white" thing. Plus, its got a short-nozzle option, where you can get close and spray just a LITTLE. which means a whole lot less mess and less waste. And its very not-drippy
The first few generations of O ring chains were pretty bad ... Or lets say the ones I tried in the mid 90's on the GS were dismal.
They kinked more, the O rings broke off and collected @ the gear shift case more etc etc ... they also wore out faster though I was a tsubaki nut, on paper they were so solid sounding ... in practice they crapped out.
However I have a DID now, and it seems to be pretty solid.
I however want a belt ... not any new and improved chain on a low power bike like a GS. I think suzuki has shafted us ... they should have atleast made it easier to fit belt ...

i use gun oil inbetween chain lubes or if i run out. gotten a weeks use out of a coating.
Has anyone tried Tri-Flow?
I use that stuff on my mountain bike and it's great!
It's apparently supposed to resist relatively high and low temperatures, it's got additives to remove dirt and grime, and it has some kind of Teflon agent in it.
All I know is when I do a fresh lube on my Slayer I can't even hear the derailleurs shift (other than the clunk from the unit changing position), the chain just glides up and down the cassette. Mud/dirt/trail dust doesn't accumulate on the chain and turn the oil into an abrasive paste like when I tried dry lube, it seems to stay on the chain longer than other typical lubes like synthetic motor oil, and it seems less messy than other bicycle specific chain lubes as far as being thrown off. The last stuff I tried ended up slapping dirty and sticky oil all over my frame and pants during the ride, so I got pissed and chucked the bottle into the nearest dumpster.
Haven't lubed my motorcycle chain yet, anyone have experience with this stuff and the o-ring chain?
I use the Dupont chain lube and love the stuff. Doesn't get thrown anywhere if you put it on as directed and it stays on for a while.
