But the GS is up for sale.
After an exhausting and crazy few months of trying to get the gs to run right, i'm finally putting her up for sale. I'm kind of sad because i never finished the project i set out to do. I had big plans and asperations for the little GS. I have tons of good parts from some very good people sitting right here. But after 2 months of steady work, long nights, and cold concrete garage floors, it still isnt running 100%.
I had every intention of seeing this through, but then my new bike fell into my lap. A 2009 Ninja 650r (in Kawi green. Im a sucker for Kawi green) with 1800 miles went up for sale in absolutely perfect condition for $3000. I managed to get 0% from my cc company for 16 months, so i snatched it up.
To give you an idea, around here the bike is worth about 5k.
The previous owner was a very nice guy who just got married and graduated college. He bought it brand new and is selling it to pay wedding bills. And, if you ask me, because he just didnt like it.
HE was a very nice guy, but i totally got the sense that he thought riding a bike would be awesome, and found out he had zero passion for it.
Dude only put 1800 miles on it in 3 years.
Anyway, i still have the GS for now, but it will probably be going up for sale so i can get the Ninja paid off quickly. I wish wish wish i could keep the GS (im toying with the idea of finishing the project, but by that time riding season will be 1/2 over and itll be harder to sell)
I really enjoyed the GS, when it ran right, but well.........

70hp, lots more torque, and...oh yea, fuel injection is magical.
Anyway, ive already put 200 miles on it in a week or so. I love it. Already added a few bits as well.
Still, ive been all around the net looking for a good 650 forum, but really i kinda like you guys better. So, if its ok, i'm going to hang around anyway. ;)
OH! And Bombsquad, i'll still pay you for that stuff. I said i would, and i will. BEcause...welll.....after typing this i kind of DO want to finish the project......just to see it done before she goes by-by.
I can't blame you for taking that opportunity. But listen, if you really want to finish your project, then do it. It will give you much deserved experience and knowledge on future projects. As for selling during riding season, I sold a Ducati Monster 600 in mid-December. Now, it might have been because it was a Ducati (not bragging at all, it's just another bike I got from auction and rebuilt), but regardless, there's always another riding season!
If you ever find yourself stuck on trying to figure out what could cause an issue with your bike, sometimes a simple break and stepping away from the bike for a few days to a couple weeks can get the light bulb to go off in your head.
I myself switched from a carbureted Suzuki VZ800 to a fuel-injected SV650S. Fuel-injection is definitely a fanatical upgrade.
Don't worry about paying me for the decals and stuff bro. I can probably use or sell 'em. I do wish you would have given me a chance to help you get her running right before you sold it though. Are you busy this weekend? I'm thinking we could get her going at least in stock configuration...
Oh, and I almost forgot...awesome find on the new bike. Looks sweet.

Agreed. Took on a project once (reminds me of Tombstone's project). I was at a low, not working, depressed, down and out...when I said, "Hey, I haven't replaced THIS part yet. Ran like brand new. Sold it 3 days later before something else went wrong, but at least I can say that I did it.
You should definitely finish the project first. There's nothing I hate more than leaving something unfinished, especially permanently because I sold it.
Also, if you finish the project there's 2 major pros:
1) You'll learn from the experience of the project and can use that knowledge in future projects,
2) The value of the project bike is WAY higher when it's running rather than a pile of parts!

I want to finish mostly because i want to SEE it done. With paint and all the bits and pieces and see my vision roll down the road.
Then again, when i stroll out to the garage, i jump on the ninja and mostly forget about the GS.
I really like the 650r.
I wish i could keep both. That would be ideal.
Congrats! That bike was a consideration of mine too (FI being key). I somehow ended up going over the top and getting Triumph Street Triple R, hahaha. Have fun with it, I too need to find my GS a new home...
That Ninja looks sick. Nice find for sure. I'm going to a Kawa demo day in a few weeks so I can get to ride a Ninja to see if I like it. Good luck, dude.
Honestly i wasn't actively looking for a new bike at all. But like everyone else, i've been known to peruse the ads every once in awhile just to "see whats out there". And i just couldnt pass it up. This thing is showroom new almost.

Neither was I, until I just stopped at a dealer after work. Then I sat on my new bike, and test rode one..... It was all down hill from there (at least $ wise)!

If you don't have to sell the GS, I vote finish it. I used to tell xune, have a bike to ride and then have one you are building. It is soo much better to be able to go ride whenever you want and then also work on your 'vision' when you want, rather than only do work. Nice find though on the ninja; looking gooood!
That is f%$king ugly! Sorry mate, althoug you got a bargain! Fair game man. I love my gs too much to sell, So I just kept two bikes rather than selling one. :thumb:
