Title: Converting Odometer/Speedo from Miles to Kilometers
Post by: Seraph on June 12, 2012, 12:17:08 PM
Long story short, I dropped my '04 GS500. It needs a new gauge/indicator set. I haven't been able to find any 2nd Generation sets (1st Gen isn't compatible because of electronic RPM counter AFAIK) for sale on Ebay here in Europe, but a few in the USA. How hard would it be to convert an American speedo and odometer to kilometers for more practical use here?

Others will chime in, but the indicator may be as easy as replacing the printed disc of miles or kilometers.

Odometer on the other hand...tricky.  Probably best to keep searching or post in the FS/Wanted section of the forum for a Kilometers speedo.

Ours have both miles & km on them if you don't mind squinting a bit to see the KM.

I would contact this person for some custom printed disc..it the easiest and cheapest way.

Like you said, the tach is electronic, but the speedo isn't. You could ask someone on ebay to split a set since you really only need the speedo in KMH.

American speedos have miles and KM for the speed.
The odometer would be miles.

As Seamax said, I create custom gauges and already have created a set of white face gauges that have the KMH in the outter ring as the large numbers. I could create these in black if you would prefer to make them look OEM.

I would be more than happy to help you out and work with you to get what exactly what you wanted.

Shoot me a PM if you think you might be intereste!

Thanks!
