I need some help cleaning the carbs on a 2002. Reason: Rough Idle and gas in the crankcase and air filter box.
1)One of the jets is is clogged and I cannot get it to be clean. I think its the middle jet.
2) I took the float off, do i need to adjust anything? (i hope this fix the leaking gas problem)
(I am about to just give up and send this unit to buddah)
I just cleaned my carbs on my 93 gs. It only has two jets but you should be able to remove all 3 jets on yours and clean them. Use a small wire to unclog them if need be. I didn't adjust my floats though.
how would you adjust them? i just took them off and put them back on
You adjust float height by GENTLY bending the small metal tab. The first pic below shows it on the older model carbs, and the second pic shows it on the newer model carbs like yours should be. You should use the U-tube drain method to determine equal float heights between your two carbs while you are in that area.

Float height on the 01-02 carbs should be set at 13mm (+/- 1mm). To do this, hlod the carbs at an angle where the float needle valve spring is depressed (not full seated....you will see the difference), with the carb float in that position, measure from the base of the carb body to the lowest point of the float to the above listed spec.
BTW, the gas in your crankcase is either due to floats being set too high, or most likely needle valves/seats need to be replaced.

that is the valve spring? the metal part you bend? what are the needle valve seats? thanks in advance
the part that needs to be bent up or down is the "tang" in between the floats (it's attached to the floats......the needle valve hangs on it). The needle valve seat is what the needle valve goes int.....looks like a brass hollow plug held in a a small phillips head screw. You will probably have to wiggle it out of it's hole with a pair of channel locks (be careful) because of the o-ring that is around it to keep a good seal in there.
