Title: Ballistic Performance Batteries
Post by: comradeiggy on June 18, 2012, 07:05:55 PM
So I was looking at getting a Li-ion battery today, and saw these batteries made by Ballistic Performance, but they don't have many reviews, while everyone raves about the Shorai batteries but they are much more expensive. Has anyone used one of these before?

I have the Shorai in 4 bikes. FANTASTIC!

I have "heard" that the Ballistic have issues with various chargers where the Shorai do not. Though, I think it would be rare that you ever need a charger.
IMHO: If you need to keep your bike on a charger - time for a new battery.

I had thought they were about the same price for the same capacity when I checked a few months ago. $99 for 9ah or $150 for 14ah, or something like that.

I've got the Shorai 14ah based off of Adidasguy's recommendation and I haven't had any problems. Bike cranks up no problems even if I haven't ridden in a week. My 'park' lights are LED and I've left them on accidentally overnight several times without consequence.  Here is a comparison as well as advantages/disadvantages for making the switch to a lithium iron phosphate cell battery:

Weird, when I looked at bike bandit the recommended battery from Ballistic Performance was the 4 cell which was only $100, but everyone was complaining it wasn't strong enough. Anyways, I guess I'll go with a Shorai when(if) I decide to replace my battery.

You sort of know me from the board and I don't have any problems with Shorai. Oh, being just the board you don't know me "personally". Sorry.

I'm having a turd of trouble trying to find the article, but I know I've read before that some companies would take the cells from lithium iron phosphate drill batteries, and group them together to make a motorcycle battery. I'm fairly certain that's what some of the cheaper options are doing anyway.
