Title: No lights from one day to the next. Battery or electrical problem?
Post by: epalm on June 19, 2012, 12:22:51 PM
This morning I turned the key, no lights.

Last time I cold-started the bike (yesterday), it started right up.

It's a 2005 GS500F with original battery, so I wouldn't be surprised if the battery was dead.  However, I'm suspicious because it went from no trouble turning the engine over and starting yesterday, to no lights at all today.  I didn't forget the lights on overnight.

Thoughts?

When you parked it yesterday, you may have inadvertently put it in Park instead of Lock. This leaves the tail light and running light in the head light on.

Whoops.  Yeah, could be.

After work today I'm going to hook the battery up to my battery tender, leave it overnight...and see if that does it.

I added a super bright white LED inside the fairing. Connected it to the running light. If I leave the key in PARK, that LED is in a place where I would see it when I take the key out. Prevents leaving it in park. You never look at the headlight or tail light to know it is left in park.

In addition, I duplicated all of the indicators with a left and right turn LED (the yellow ones)

Overnight charging worked like a charm.  It must have been in Park instead of Lock.

Thanks!
