So I've cleaned the carbs, put the KandL rebuild kits in them, set the idle air screws at 2 turns, and the left cylinder gets all sooty and black. I turn the idle air screw of the left carb to half a turn, and get the same results. What's going on with my bike? As I'm cruising down the road, anything under 5k is choppy, and inconsistent like I am losing a cylinder.
Check float height. Do a search on the forums, there are many procedures. It's easy, and could be the reason why your LH side is fouling.
Next, check spark. Is it weak compared to the other side? General rule of thumb: screws turned in = leaner. Turned out = richer.
Did you do anything else to the bike? Change the jets? What about air cleaner and exhaust? Are they stock, or have they been modified?

Was a little high, but both carbs were the same. It will idle okay on just the right cyl. but not just the left.
I checked the spark, and it seemed just as strong on each side using a spark tester. The bike is completely stock.
Adjust the carb balance screw in there between the 2 carbs? Also called "carb syncing"?
