Title: Pins on the side
Post by: iclrag on June 21, 2012, 08:12:20 PM
Does anybody know what the pins are for on the back of a GS500F are for? i assume they are to hold on the fairings (i just thought of that now that im typing this) but do they serve a different purpose? i was thinking they would be a great place to attach a remove-able saddle-bag or similar device

If you mean the pins on the metal bar on each side on the back, they're just luggage thingies. Sometimes there's a threaded hole or two which are for old, no longer available, luggage racks.

I believe thats what i am looking at, i was hoping thats what it was for but i was un-sure, thank you! do you know of any luggage still made that fits on those?
and to double check, heres a pictures from my build thread where they are prominent, one directly above the reflector the other is close to it

Those are hooks for bungee cords and stuff like that. I think only the older bikes actually had a threaded screw hole back there like you see here

It may have been the rare OEM rear luggage rack (hint hint - I'll buy one if you have it! Hey - anyone in Europe have one?)

Ooooh okay, that would make sense, i was thinking they looked awfully similar to how the bike seat "clicks" into place.

thank you!

as you can tell, i'm fairly new to street bikes, so sorry if i sound like an idiot, we all start somewhere  :icon_twisted: or if you read my posts like this  :icon_rolleyes:

No, you're fine.

The one's that sound "with less than a full deck" are those wondering why the bike stalls......thinking a little gas sloshing is a FULL TANK,  when it should be on reserve --- or put more gas in. Really - we get one of those per month.

You're doing fine. Stay around and enjoy all the insanity that goes on here.

SW Motech makes a top rack for the GS500F.  It's small, but that means that you can fit a top case like a GIVI.  There are some European manufacturers that make side cases, but like Adidas said, rare here in the USA.

There's one for sale here on the forum if you are interested...http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=60811.0

I've done that....well, not the posting about it part.  I put it on reserve, then forgot to turn it back.  Next time around I'm thinking, "Why am I getting 200 miles from this tank of gas?!"  When I get to the gas station, I thank you-know-who that I didn't run out of gas.   :icon_eek:

i highly doubt i'll do that, my car almost never drops below 1/4 of a tank, let alone my bike
