Title: So my brother bought a bike.
Post by: k.rollin on June 21, 2012, 08:13:35 PM
My little brother texted me today, saying that he bought his first bike. Turns out he did; he bought an absolutely gorgeous naked bike. He bought a 2008 MV Agusta Brutale 910r. Clearly, he has more money than sense, especially since he has a history of crashing (rode a friend's Honda CT90 up a tree, crashed his 1970 Chevelle, rolled his truck), and is shipping out to Hawaii in a couple months. Oh well, here's pictures, because it's still an awesome bike:

Sweet.

If he crashes that much, ALWAYS video him on the bike. You can sell the tape of the crash to those "World's Dumbest..." programs.  :icon_lol:

He's in San Diego, and I'm in Mount Vernon, WA. He'll have to record it himself, or have his friend's do it.

Maybe I can arrange a trade with him for my GS. Then when he wrecks, it won't be so expensive.

His very first bike is that?

Oh well, it was a nice bike. He'll crash that real soon, unfortunately. These bikes don't suffer the inexperienced. It will eat him up and spit him out. Shame really.

Michael

Those are my thoughts/concerns. His riding experience is limited to a few short rides years ago on my DT100K, a friend's CT90 and XR200, and another friend's ZZR636. He wanted an R6 before, and I really rather that he'd bought one of those instead, because the Brutale is too damn expensive for a first bike that will invariably get dropped.

Where would the world be without people to wreck MV Agusta's and Ferrari Enzo's ?

ooooh gorgeous. That bike has always been my favorite bike. I've seen them used for $5000-6000 before, but even at a price like that, I'd be sooo cautious that I wouldn't even have as much fun riding it. I'd loooove to have the money to own one, but I've owned carbon fiber bicycles, and nice clean sportbikes and to be honest I just never enjoyed them as much cheaper, beat up things haha. Incredible bike, definitely a little jealous, but I won't be missing it when I'm out having serious fun on my bike. I'm sure he won't be missing anything when he's out picking up girls that would just scoff at my supermoto  :thumb:

Beautiful bike. Knew a guy in the Marine Corps that had one, i was so jealous. Until he was buying parts. I think now I would consider it worth it.

He.... doesnt have frame sliders.

Even a parking lot drop, is going to be a mess. ugh. :(

Do we start a betting pool on how long it takes?  :embarrassed:

You know Phil, it wouldn't be a bad idea to tell him to get some sliders. A betting pool could be fun, as long as he doesn't get to screwed up in the drop. lol

Reminds me of a kid I saw on campus riding a Ducati. Looked like a total newbie on a bike. Hard shifts, walking it off the line, a lot of looking down at the controls and pedals. . .

I hope your brother enjoys the bike and doesn't ride it like a dorf and hurt himself on it. Money apparently can buy happiness, but it still can't fix stupid.

whoops, so it does. I can see them in the 3/4 angle. I was only looking at the side view, and I guess I missed the black-on-blackness of them.

I'm with Michael on this.  Way too much bike for a newcomer.  Nutty choice for a first bike, even if money is no object.

i tend to agree as well. considering his past record. i just hope he has enough common sense. hes too young to go meet his maker yet.

I'm ok with people buying more bike than they're ready for. It's the easiest way for people like me to buy nice bikes with a couple scratches and scuffs on them because someone took a minor tumble and is now afraid to ride their shiny new bike.  :icon_mrgreen:

there's a guy who own a clothing store in a shop under my office. We stopped in one day because 2 of the girls I work with were friends with him. He had his arm in a sling and said he broke his collarbone because he just dropped his ducati turning in a city intersection a block or two from his house. He had only bought the bike about 2 weeks earlier and said he was gonna sell it because it just wasn't worth the risk. I meanwhile was standing there with a swollen shin because I had just taken a tumble off of my supermoto 2 days earlier, and laughed the entire time it was happening. Some people just get in over their head, but somebody should get a good deal on a lightly rashed up Ducati out of it!

Well, if you have no clue what you are doing on a motorcycle, there is a lot of risk and something as simple as not seeing something in your path of travel through an intersection that might be problematic ~ debris/sand/oil/gas/signs/traffic lights/brake lights/cross traffic/etc ~ it's all too much for some people to deal with on a single-track vehicle.
