I use seld locking tie downs in my Toyota and thay work great.  Hook them to the handlebar and crank them tight.  If you never secured a bike before I suggest you get help from someone who has so you can see exactly how to do it.

Self-locking tie downs are the way to go...  Also put a peice of board between the edges of tires to the side of the bed (kindda like a track)

yeah, get real Tie downs.  Don't do the front too tight or you can possibly blow you fork seals on a big bump.  Don't even think about using bungees :o

When I went to Ohio to first pick up my bike......I went to a tractor supply company, and picked up a ramp....they go for $40, but were out of that one so I had to get the $60 one.  It folds up, and it easy to carry and set up.

I have a Ford Ranger, and I was able to fit the bike in (tailgate down) and had plenty of room for other things.  If you aren't able to fit the bike in straight, may I suggest  at an angle.

This might give you the kennel room you need, plus a handy compartment for keeping it in nearly one place.
