my speedometer light is out just wonder what is the easiest way to get to it and what kind of light is it.

and make sure you specify 500E / 500F, i believe they use different bulbs

All bulbs for gauges ate T-10 wedge type bulbs. The 4 instrument lamps changed after 2000 to T-5's from T-10's.

Remove the gauges from the bike (2 bolts on handle bar bracket). If you can get at the 5 screws for the back cover, you might be able to omit this step.
Remove black plastic back (5 small screws I think)
Grab wires and wiggle out the lamp.
Insert new lamp (LED is best), Be sure it works before closing things up. (i.e. turn bike on)
Reassemble.

I was 99% sure I caught you in an error...then I discovered I misread this sentence.
