Title: Does anyone have an 2005 Alternator Rotor/Flywheel you're itching to get rid of?
Post by: bsheppar on July 11, 2012, 07:56:19 AM
The bolts came loose that mount the starter clutch to the rotor and buggered up the threads in the holes and broke the bolts in half. Other than the 3 bolts and holes, the rotor, magnets, and clutch parts look fine. Bike Bandit has one for $246 and cheapcycleparts.com has it for $237 but that's pretty steep for me right now.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I had the bolts back out on my starter clutch and when I pulled the rotor the thing fell too quick to catch and I buggered a magnet.

Long story short, I found a thread that had possible alternative rotors  that would work across engines. I settled on a 1980 GS250. The stator had the same number of winds and same gauge wiring, so keep your stator. The only difference is the magneto has 3 magnets instead of 6. I still haven't measured the output while it's running, but it's as good as before.

Thanks for the info Dizzledan. My only concern is whether the older model rotors are compatible with the 05's. Seems like i read somewhere that suzuki changed something about the charging system in the 04 and up models but maybe the rotor itself is still the same and only the stator changed. I just don't know.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can help me out on this matter since i seem to be too ignant about it. :dunno_black:

thanks

Ignition module changed, but charging system did not. 3 magnets will work.  In fact, I think I read that dgyver put that in my bike...  Not positive though: and won't be until I take the whole thing apart to fix a leak between the case halves.  Grrrrr
